Job Description Summary

Conducts research on the interaction of nitrogen oxides and hemoglobin using spectroscopic and biochemical tools and/or conducts experiments with bacterial growth. Help perform other experiments in biophysics lab. Conduct various administrative tasks for the lab.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Performs spectroscopic experiments and/or bacterial experiments.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of research.
  • Communicates results.
  • Coauthors papers.
  • Helps run the lab on a day to day basis.
  • Make purchases for the lab.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • B.S. or B.A. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics or a related field.
  • Ability to conduct experiments using spectroscopy or microbiology.
  • Ability to communicate (oral and written).
  • Ability to work in a group as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Light work, but occasionally moves heavy Ar/N2/O2/H2 tanks. Kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside environmental conditions; subject to hazards (exposure to chemicals); may be exposed to infectious diseases.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Assists in providing training, work direction and problem solving assistance for other lab personnel.
  • Maintains good group dynamics within the laboratory.

Authority/Accountability:

  • Works under minimal supervision, reports to supervisor.

Problem Solving:

  • Helps design experiments, communicating effectively.
