Position Summary
This position will support the administrative and instructional functions of the Business Education Center (BEC). Oversee and monitor the daily operations of the center. This position reports to the Director of the BEC.

Essential Functions

  • Perform clerical duties such as filing, answering the phone, printing handouts, keeping area organized, and maintaining correspondence through BEC email.
  • Provide information about the BEC and college policies and procedures to students, staff, and faculty. Refer students to appropriate tutoring programs as well as other campus programs/resources when appropriate.
  • Act as liaison between the BEC and other departments and divisions on campus; work closely with them to ensure that the center meets the needs of TCC students.
  • Be the initial contact point for student, staff, and faculty issues or complaints that arise related to the BEC.
  • Coordinate publicity efforts for the BEC (Coordinate class visits, create flyers, update Facebook page, send emails, etc.)
  • Evaluate, update, and document policies and procedures and communicate regularly with BEC staff (check-ins, reminders, monitoring staff and giving formal and informal feedback, etc.).
  • Participate in the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of new BEC staff.
  • Assist with training, scheduling, and monitoring new and current employees.
  • Responsible for center shift coverage: Collect quarterly staff availability, create and share schedule, ensure continued coverage.
  • Assist with budgeting and spending for supplies. Maintain inventory of supplies and recommend order levels to keep sufficient supplies on hand.
  • Coordinate development of business student support materials, including handouts and online resources.
  • Collect, compile and report BEC data.
  • Participate in combined center and/or TCC wide trainings.
  • Tutor in business related classes when needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree or higher in a business-related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent education/experience.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher in related courses to be tutored
  • Proficiency with word, excel, and outlook.
  • Familiarity with higher education environments including but not limited to academic support programs and/or student leadership programs

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field
  • Current TCC employee or TCC graduate.
  • Previous tutoring experience.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with Canvas and TracCloud
  • Ability to tutor all, or most, courses taught at TCC in a specialization area: Accounting, Business, Computer User, Economics, Business Mathematics, and/or Information Technology.
  • Experience working with at risk or underprepared students.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check prior to employment.
  • Commitment of 10-17 hours per week.

Terms of Employment
This non-permanent hourly position is bound by the WAC 357-04-045 provisions above and are scheduled to work up to 17 hours per week. The salary is $21.43 - $21.43 per hour. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet department needs. TCC Part-time hourly and student employees including work study students, will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked. Hourly non-student employees may be applicable for comprehensive health care benefits package for you and your dependents includes medical, dental and vision insurance.
