Description

The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) is hiring a Statistician to join our Institutional Research team. We're looking for someone who can communicate complicated data information to a wide variety of stakeholders. In this role, you'll be responsible for a variety of institutional research activities for all aspects of the community college system to support planning and strategic decision-making. Additionally, you will serve as a resource and source of support for our 13 colleges. You'll be responsible for coordinating, completing, and overseeing the compilation of various institutional, agency, state, and federal reports, questionnaires, and surveys. This position serves as a subject matter expert on statistical analyses/methodology and will provide training and consultation about statistical analysis/methodology to co-workers and other stakeholders at System Office and our colleges.

Note: This position is term-limited until two years from the employee's start date.

Duties Include:



  • Assist in providing/reporting information to both internal and external sources by writing queries, mining data, and analyzing and interpreting data from a wide variety of data sources.
  • Prepare, format, and clean data, and produce professional reports with graphs, comparisons, and fact sheets in support of specific projects, including enrollment reports, the System data book, and other research reports.
  • Research and resolve problems in accuracy of data. Organize and perform cross-check data and data testing as needed to ensure integrity and validity; provide solutions for enhancing data accuracy and streamlining reporting processes. Work with the Business Intelligence team on enhancing the data warehouse to meet the needs of the System and the 13 colleges. Use a variety of tools including SPSS, R, Cognos, as well as SQL queries against the database.
  • Adapt a variety of statistical and analytical methods and design new procedures for education research, the assessment of methods for data collection, and other statistical projects.
  • Analyze findings, evaluate the reliability and validity of data, and specify the range of logically possible explanations for analytic results.
  • Plan procedures for collecting and tabulating data, assess currently used methods, engage with the field to understand the needs and capabilities of stakeholders, recommend new or improved models, and present findings that result in data quality improvements.
  • Provide consultation to stakeholders at the 13 colleges on experimental design and statistical research approaches, requirements, and scientific standards.


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, social science, data science, or related field.
  • Two years of research experience in statistical methods such as program evaluation, experimental design, natural language processing, Bayesian inference, hierarchical/multilevel modeling, longitudinal data analysis, quality measurement, and/or predictive modeling.
  • Experience in writing SQL.
