Ferrous Processing and Trading, a business of Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Systems Server Engineer at our Corporation office. The Senior Systems Engineer (SE) is responsible for maintaining and supporting both physical and virtualized Windows servers hosted in Microsoft Azure. Hardware support will also be required for the physical servers. Additional responsibilities include managing and monitoring backups and security patching for the environment, for both servers and desktop/laptop computers. In addition, system administration duties for our Windows-based network will be required such as managing user accounts, network drives, desktop support, and backing up our service desk. They will need to become familiar with our remote management and monitoring (RMM) tools, currently ManageEngine from Zoho. This will include using the RMM for software deployment, scripting, patch management, and mobile device management. They will also be required to undertake the management of our PRTG monitoring system to help ensure our systems and communications are working optimally. Additionally, the SE will need to work on tickets generated from our systems for both project and break/fix tasks, which also include Change Control related activities. These tools are subject to change, but the concepts and responsibilities associated with them remain the same.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Respond to Level 2 and Level 1 IT service requests or incident tickets regarding, but not limited to: laptops, desktops, servers, email, security and user applications.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis to expedite incident resolution.
  • Installs, supports, upgrades and maintains servers (physical and virtual) running the Windows
    operating system, plans for, responds to and documents service outages and other issues in an Active Directory (AD) environment.
  • Management, design and maintenance of an AD environment.
  • Implement and support Group Policies.
  • Perform critical design, define best practices and support policies for virtual datacenter environments including - deployment, configuration, fine-tuning, firmware, virtual machine backups and snapshots, upgrades, patches and firmware updates.
  • Administer the corporate server environment including user accounts for server and remote access, network security and distribution of network privileges.
  • Create reports for performance, troubleshooting, capacity planning and implement changes.
  • Perform daily system monitoring by verifying the integrity and availability of servers' physical/virtual hardware, resources, systems, and key processes.
  • Evaluate new server application solutions. This includes an evaluation of desired applications and hardware, suitability to the corporate network, determination of proper configuration and installation of the solution.
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures and standards for the corporate network, including user support, workstation hardware and software, and office automation strategy.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and implement those automation solutions.
  • Research and implement new hardware/software solutions to ensure network security and accessibility of critical data in response to corporate need.
  • Research and implement system upgrades, hardware and software as needed.
  • Serve as a key point of contact and technical resource for troubleshooting, maintaining and implementing solutions for Microsoft Azure.
  • Have a strong understanding of network fundamentals for communication between systems including client VPN, site to site VPN, network protocols and ports, and VLANs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in the IT field with at least 8 years of experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Azure.
  • Proven experience with virtual computing, resource groups, networking, and VPN gateway functionality.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to employees with a variety of skill sets, including executive leadership
  • Exceptional customer service is key to the success of this role
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to create written processes and procedures as well as technical documentation
  • Understanding of information systems in privacy and security issues, including standard practices for protecting systems
  • Prior experience with Sarbanes Oxley compliance is a plus
  • Ability to travel within the US, Canada, and Mexico
  • Evening and weekend on-call responsibilities
  • Pre-employment background, physical, and hair drug screen required.
