Staff Research Associate I/II Pediatrics - Critical Care Full Time 78279BR Job Summary Children and young adults can develop a variety of respiratory diseases due to triggers like infections, inflammation, or lung toxicity from inhalations or medications. These respiratory diseases can manifest as trouble breathing, low oxygen, or even need for hospitalization or admission to the intensive care unit. The children most susceptible to having trouble breathing are those with complex medical conditions such as cancer, immune system problems, prematurity, or genetic syndromes. UCSF is a leader in pediatric pulmonary disorders and we are committed to improving the care of these children through scientific research. The department ranks 17th in the nation among Pediatric departments for funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The department is comprised of 17 divisions, with clinical income form inpatient and outpatient activities totaling over $90 million dollars in charges and annual extramural funding (contracts and grants) exceeding $40 million. The Department's mission includes research (both basic and clinical), education, patient care and public service. The Department's clinical enterprise is based at the 183-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco, the 191-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, Mount Zion, Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG), and at a number of outreach clinics throughout Northern California, providing the Department with unsurpassed opportunity to meet the needs of infants, children, and young adults throughout the Bay Area. In 2019, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals ranked in all 10 children's specialties in U.S. News and World Report. Required Qualifications SRA 1: * BA/BS in biology or chemistry or a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience * Willingness to work with human biological samples * Knowledge of scientific equipment (centrifuge, pipettes, ultra-low freezers) * Strong computer skills including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook * Ability to multi-task and prioritize * Excellent communication skills * Flexible schedule - ability to work evenings and weekends * Meticulous record keeping abilities SRA II: In addition to above * BA/BS in a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or equivalent experience/training.
