Registered Nurse Specialist I (TEMP)

The Opportunity:

The UCF Student Health Team is seeking qualified candidates for a Registered Nurse Specialist I position. The Registered Nurse Specialist I will provide professional culturally competent nursing care to patients. The Registered Nurse Specialist I will practice under the oversight of a licensed healthcare provider, practice nursing compliance with FL Nurse Act, and adhere to OSHA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and FL Department of Health guidelines. The Registered Nurse Specialist I will follow SHS policies and assist in regularly assigned and other specialty areas to meet the needs of the clinic.

Responsibilities:


  • Direct patient care (Primary, Sports, International, Gynecology, Behavioral Health, After Hours, Specialty); Nursing assessment in all patient care areas of the clinic.

  • Assist providers with exams, procedures, and treatments.

  • Administer medications (inhalation, injection, intravenous, oral, topical).

  • Collect samples/specimens.

  • Complete diagnostics tests as ordered (e.g., Electrocardiogram (EKG), COVID, Spirometry).

  • Provide patient education (e.g., medications, procedures, office visits, prevention, follow-up, self-care).

  • Document as necessary (e.g., Electronic Health Records (EHR), logs).

  • Assist with Baker Acts and Marchman Acts.

  • Participate in drills and assigned annual training.

  • Participate in code responses.

  • Participate in infection prevention (e.g., clean rooms and clean multi-patient use items between use, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, and safe injection practices).

  • Participate in inventory control.

  • Attend staff meetings.

  • Participate in nursing education as assigned.

  • Participate in peer review.

  • Assist in UCF SHS Lab as needed.

  • Complete weekly medication reconciliation for the first floor.

  • Other duties as assigned to meet the operational needs of the clinic.

  • Timely completion of all required university, AHSC, and SHS training.


Minimum Qualifications:

Licensed as a registered nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes, or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Section 210, Florida Administrative Code.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Prior experience in ambulatory care nursing.

  • BLS Certification. UCF SHS requires American Heart Association (or equivalent as indicated on the certification) which includes the hands-on demonstration portion.

  • Adheres to HIPAA (Health Information Privacy Protection Act) guidelines and education.

  • Knowledge of nursing principles and practices.

  • Experience working with Electronic Health Record Systems.
