Position Summary & Duties Responsible

POSITION SUMMARY

Investigator will perform duties involved with the investigation, administration, and review of inmate disciplinary reports by corrections staff at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC). Schedule hearings, prepare reports, and make recommendations for sanctions based on findings of the investigation. Maintain security of records associated with these processes. Ensure disposition is delivered and assist with processing of inmate grievances.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Determine scope, timing, and direction of investigations. Serve as chair of hearing committee for a specified disciplinary case load.
  2. Make recommendations for sanctions based on committee findings from the investigation.
  3. Obtain facts or statements from complainants, witnesses, and accused persons.
  4. Gather evidence, coordinate testimony review, and interview witnesses.
  5. Read, understand, and comply with all MDC policies and procedures. Act as subject-matter expert for MDC policies and procedures as it relates to inmate discipline and grievances.
  6. Receive, document, review, and investigate all Inmate Disciplinary Reports submitted by MDC staff and clarify any questionable reports.
  7. Complete Inmate Disciplinary Reports by completing the investigation in accordance to court ordered negotiated policies.
  8. Schedule hearings based on court ordered negotiated policy requirements.
  9. Ensure the applicable MDC staff receive copies of the disposition(s) in order to comply with the sanctions given by the hearing.
  10. Ensure the disposition made is delivered and advisement of appeals followed according to court ordered negotiated policy.
  11. Ensure proper application of sanction decisions from hearings by MDC staff in accordance with court ordered negotiated policies.
  12. Assist with investigation, response, and routing of grievances. Track all grievance statistical data; review all inmate grievance files.
  13. With high degree of accuracy, enter, cancel, and modify reports that detail investigation findings using applicable electronic data entry and records management systems.
  14. Process and file all incoming documentation and maintain records according to established records management rules and regulations.
  15. Collect, prepare, and review data for statistical purposes and reports as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field, and two (2) years of work experience conducting investigations. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

  1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
  3. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Duties are performed in a temperature-controlled environment.
  2. Duties are performed on an even surface, which may be carpeted or tile. Working surface is typically dry.
  3. Worker often works alone both with or without directions from supervisor.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS

  1. Materials and products handled in the course of performing essential duties include files, forms, reports, various other paperwork, and a wide variety of basic office supplies.
