Job Summary

The Senior Cargo Accounting Representative invests in the future of Southwest's People in their managing of Cargo Customer accounts. This role works collaboratively with Cargo Sales Managers and with Customers directly to research billing, process invoices and payments, and reconcile accounts to help ensure revenue from shipments is received. The Senior Cargo Accounting Representative is detail-oriented and excited to bring great customer service to Southwest Airlines Cargo.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate discrepancies to management team, identify slow-paying customers, and recommend collection candidates
  • Strengthen and grow relationships with clients by communicating with customers regarding past-due accounts
  • Maintain accounts receivable records to ensure aging is up to date, credits and collections are applied, uncollectible amounts are accounted for, and miscellaneous differences are cleared
  • Perform daily cash management duties, including posting of cash to the accounts receivable sub-ledger
  • Monitor and collect accounts receivable by contacting clients via telephone, email, and mail
  • Document research findings and communications with customer in accordance with reporting requirements
  • Reconcile frontend sales system to ERP system to ensure all receivables are properly recorded
  • Assist in streamlining and improving the accounts receivable process identifying areas of performance improvement
  • Support the company in optimizing financial transactions and systems by performing reconciliation of payments and customer accounts
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data
  • Knowledge of internal controls and SOX compliance
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing Customer and personal services including Customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of Customer satisfaction
  • Skilled in exploring data, finding patterns and building intuition through experience as to the meaning behind the numbers
  • Skilled in software systems and tools used in performance of day-to-day functional duties related to receivable and collections
  • Skilled in understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
  • Ability to be clear and concise in all types of communications, whether speaking to someone in person, on the phone, via email, or developing training materials
  • Ability to collaborate within the Team to identify inefficiencies in current functional areas, and make recommendations for improvement
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Intermediate level experience, fully functioning broad knowledge in:
    • Accounting, Finance, or Business
  • Preferred: Collection experience
  • Preferred: Experience in Microsoft Excel, Quickbase, SAP
Licensing/Certification

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from limited space workstation/desk/office area for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information
  • Must have the flexibility to work extended hours, including occasional weekends, and Company holidays

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from$49,300.00 - $54,800.00 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
