Job Description:

The Senior Data Science Consultant serves as a subject matter leader in the development, application, and use of data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization solutions in the business. This role is responsible for leading the end-to-end management of complex data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization products as well as the coordination and relationship with the project customer which includes opportunity identification, scoping, and valuation of potential products. The Senior Data Science Consultant is a detail-oriented thinker, who is ready to drive the future of Southwest's Technology.

Responsibilities
  • Leads moderate to highly complex data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization projects, working with the customer and collaborating with colleagues to understand contextual problems quickly and define, analyze, and deliver products based on business objectives
  • Serves as the customer relationship lead on data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization projects and interacts with cross-functional leaders across multiple and concurrent projects
  • Leads discussions with stakeholders from multiple backgrounds to gather business needs for data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization solutions
  • Serves as a subject matter leader on data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization delivery methodologies
  • Leads the development of Executive-level communication (e.g. project status updates, presentations, etc.)
  • Synthesizes significant amounts of detailed data and summarizes relevant information for the appropriate stakeholder
  • Creates and communicates results and options for moderate to highly complex projects to the customer
  • Analyzes market landscape and implements best practices to support their internal customer needs
  • Drives the ongoing development of the Southwest Airlines data science center and community
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge in both inductive and deductive reasoning and problem solving approaches
  • Advanced knowledge in evaluating analytic methods to propose the appropriate end-to-end product roadmap for business problems
  • Advanced knowledge in leveraging value definition frameworks and methodologies to size, scope, and prioritize various data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization initiatives
  • Skilled in leveraging enterprise communication tools to develop and deliver messaging of complex technical projects to appropriate stakeholders
  • Skilled in utilizing project management tools to define the product roadmap and project plan used to ensure the project has the resources needed to complete tasks on time
  • Ability to build trust with all levels of Employees up to and including cross-functional leaders and must have the ability to properly manage highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to lead highly complex data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or optimization projects including acting as a leader in business stakeholder meetings, solution definition and planning, detailed task and deliverable definition and creation, and project schedule creation
  • Ability to lead communication in an engaging way with strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences up to and including cross-functional senior leaders
  • Ability to lead project teams through a variety of situations and changing approaches/methodology if necessary in order to effectively and successfully meet objectives
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Computer or Data Sciences, Information Technology or similar fields of study; or equivalent advance level experience
Experience
  • Expert level experience, expansive and far reaching knowledge in:
    • Data analysis and advanced analytics
    • Consulting and management experience with data science, machine learning, or artificial intelligence projects
    • Visualization and presentation development and delivery
    • Solving ambiguous and complex problems through a systems thinking approach

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary and sensitive Company information

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $144,200 per year to $160,200 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
