Position Summary & Duties Responsible

POSITION SUMMARY

Recreation Specialist Senior will plan, coordinate, and supervise programs and staff for various department operations. Implement, monitor, and evaluate recreational, educational and leisure programs for the public. Schedule staff and assist in scheduling facilities and facility grounds for programs and special events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in planning, coordinating, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of recreational, educational and leisure programs for the public.
  2. Schedule staff and assist in scheduling facilities and facility grounds for programs and special events.
  3. Assist in staff and program contractor supervision and evaluation as assigned.
  4. Maintain records of activities and program participation and perform administrative duties as necessary.
  5. Assist in budget preparation and expenditure tracking including purchasing.
  6. Plan and supervise field trips and drive a County vehicle to transport program participants as required.
  7. Assist in training, motivating and mediating issues with staff as assigned.
  8. Prepare monthly reports, facility use agreements, rental agreements, flyers, center brochures, and public response correspondence.
  9. Develop, initiate and maintain contacts with local schools, businesses, community organizations and government officials for program operation.
  10. Set-up areas for program or activity utilization and assist with general cleaning as necessary.
  11. Incumbent(s) in this classification may handle sensitive and/or confidential records, plans, documents or decisions that require maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. ?

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or GED, and four (4) years of work experience in recreation, education, or related field. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

  1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
  3. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
  4. Must have a valid New Mexico driver's license by employment date and retain a valid new Mexico driver's license while employed in this position.
  5. Employee must complete required Supervisor classes if applicable.
  6. Will receive skills training in basic first aid and CPR.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Works with general direction and with select groups.
  2. Work performed both indoors (60%) and outdoors (40%).
  3. Worker will be exposed to natural weather conditions when working outdoors.
  4. Duties will be performed on sand, gravel, asphalt, grass, wood floors and tile, all of which may be wet or dry.
  5. Required to drive multi-passenger vehicles as needed.
  6. Required to work variable hours.
  7. Work hazards are those normally encountered in the instruction or participation in sports activities.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS

  1. Sports equipment such as used in baseball, basketball, football, soccer, tennis, etc., and various arts and crafts supplies are utilized in the performance of essential duties.
  2. Equipment and materials typically used in the performance of clerical duties include telephone, typewriter, copier and basic office supplies.
  3. Equipment typically used in performance of maintenance duties include mops, brooms, buffer and window cleaning supplies.
