Berkeley Lab seeks a skilled Electrician to join our dynamic team! As a vital member reporting to the Electrical Supervisor or designated lead person, you'll embark on a journey-level role supporting various divisions within the matrixed environment at LBNL. This position is the backbone of our electrical infrastructure, installing, testing, operating, and maintaining a plethora of laboratory electrical equipment. This role will delve into troubleshooting, repairs, and proactive maintenance to ensure seamless operations. From the intricate electrical distribution systems to the essential building utility support systems, you'll be the guardian of our technological vitality. You'll also have the opportunity to flex your creativity by contributing to the installation and modification of office and research work areas. What You Will Do:

Low Voltage Electrician (<600V)



  • Troubleshoot and repair complex control systems, including building energy management systems and variable frequency drives.
  • Install, test, operate, modify, repair, and replace various electrical components such as circuit breakers, lighting fixtures, motors, switches, and wiring devices.
  • Fabricate component parts and assemblies, terminate cables, and place cableways and enclosures.
  • Interpret prints, wiring schematics, and diagrams to meet project requirements.
  • Adhere to National Electric Code and LBL specifications for compliant installations and NFPA 70E for safety.
  • Ensure compliance with DOE health and safety policies and other relevant regulations.
  • Immediately halt work in case of danger and notify management.
  • Available for extended workdays, weekends, and emergency callbacks as needed.
  • Assist High Voltage Electricians as required for planned or emergency work.



What is Required:



  • Completion of formal apprenticeship or equivalent training in industrial electrical maintenance and at least four years of journey-level experience.
  • Valid California Driver's license.
  • State Certified Electrician or ability to obtain CA certification within 12 months.
  • Proficiency in field installation and maintenance of electrical equipment, including motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and motor control systems.
  • Skilled in using a variety of portable and fixed tools.
  • Demonstrated safety awareness and compliance with NFPA 70E and OSHA standards.
  • Working knowledge of National Electrical Code and relevant construction codes.
  • Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NETA-MTS, UL, and other electrical/mechanical standards.
  • Expertise in using portable tools and understanding raceway and conductor specifications.
  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and effectively communicate technical information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for teamwork and customer service.
  • Proficient in using metering devices for electrical measurements.
  • Computer literacy for record keeping and report writing.
  • Physical capabilities for climbing, working at heights, and lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Availability for emergency response during weekends and holidays.
  • Capacity to work safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.



Desired Qualifications:



  • NFPA CESW Certified.
  • Skilled in maintaining and installing building automation systems, boilers, boiler controls, and lighting controls.
  • Experience with research equipment.
  • Previous roles include service technician for energy management and lighting control systems in LEED buildings.



Notes:



  • This is a full-time career appointment, non-exempt (hourly paid).
  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
  • The hourly rate for this position is $63.18 per hour. This is predetermined based on collective bargaining agreements set rates.
