BASIC PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to keep the Stockton Corps offices and property clean and orderly. Daily maintaining the building before and after program and office use. Beyond the daily cleaning of all programs rooms, sanctuary, bathrooms and offices, the custodian will do light maintenance such as changing light bulbs, small building repairs, and painting as needed. In the area of cross training the custodian is the backup driver when they are out of office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Custodian



  1. Dusts, sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, rooms and Strips and waxes floors.
  2. Cleans and disinfects bathrooms; replenishes supplies as
  3. Cleans windows, walls, work spaces and furniture.
  4. Replaces air conditioner filters.
  5. Keeps inventory of all janitorial supplies.
  6. Empties trash and garbage containers.
  7. Maintains building, performing minor and routine painting, and other related maintenance activities.
  8. Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
  9. Reports sanitary and safety hazards and the need for repairs to supervisor.
  10. Cleans debris from sidewalk, parking lots and yards.
  11. Moves furniture, supplies and equipment as required
  12. Performs routine security tasks as necessary (e.g. Turns lights off, locks doors, etc.).
  13. Reports any vandalism or theft to supervisor immediately
  14. Inspects the grounds, the park and trees for needed maintenance.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS



  1. High School Diploma or GED or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Working knowledge of methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls, and fixtures.
  3. Working knowledge of cleaning materials, disinfectants, and equipment used in custodial work.
  4. Must have ability to work with people of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  5. Ability to participate in appropriate training in hazardous materials handling, storage, and disposal; follow designated policy and procedures for Haz-mat identification, storage and disposal; maintain standards related to environmental compliance and personal health and safety as required.
  6. Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
  7. Ability to speak and write the English language.
  8. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  9. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.


CERTIFICATES



  1. Must be at least 21 years of age
  2. Complete The Salvation Army's PTM training


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:





    • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects; ability to reach overhead.
    • Ability to regularly lift up and/or move up to 25 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
    • Must have good mobility with the ability to climb, crawl, bend and have good dexterity in regard to grasping, reaching, and handling.
    • The ability to operate indoor cleaning machines (i.e., vacuum, buffer) and grounds keeping equipment (i.e., pressure washer & blower).
