The Shelby location is Clearwater Paper's newest consumer products facility, boasting two paper mills located on 400 acres with over 600 talented employees. We are proud to produce a variety of high-quality premium and ultra-premium bathroom tissue, household paper towels, and napkins for major retail outlets throughout the United States. Our state-of-the-art technology includes 10 converting lines, 54 laser-guided vehicles, and 2 paper machines producing large quantities at high speed. Shelby, North Carolina is a quaint community located between bustling downtown Charlotte and scenic Asheville. The town is a stone's throw from Gastonia, Belmont, and Kings Mountain. What you will do



  • Use instrumentation equipment to diagnose and service Laser Guided Vehicle Equipment.
  • Interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Perform installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of photo eyes, proximity switches, limit switches, PLC input/output modules, and all associated control wiring.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and repair motors and motor control centers.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot position feedback devices encoders and load cells.
  • Perform an emphasis on hydraulic troubleshooting and strong mechanical abilities.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose configuration and implementation of integrated and stand-alone graphic human-machine interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose specification of communication protocols, including Profibus, serial and industrial Ethernet.
  • Diagnose and perform preventive maintenance on Laser Guided Vehicles and associated conveyors and equipment.
  • Hold self and others to a high level of safety standards, ensuring workplace safety policies are upheld and safety rules are followed (lockout/tagout procedures, appropriate PPE).
  • Participate as needed in safety incidents and help investigate root causes.
  • Ensure the work environment is clean and free from debris.


What you will need



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3 years demonstrated electrical experience or 2 years of related education in lieu of experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), pneumatics, or hydraulic systems required.
  • Strong communication skills for both communication with E80 and other employees as well as the need for being comfortable with computer work such as Excel.
  • Experienced in working with computerized maintenance systems preferred.
  • Internal candidates must have completed a minimum of Level 5 Qualification.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing safety procedures (lockout/tagout, confine spaces, personal protective equipment, etc.) preferred.
  • DCS and PLC programming preferred.
  • Understanding of hydraulics, fluid power applications, bearings, alignments, and precision adjustment preferred.
  • Welding and fabrication preferred.
  • Forklift/Clamp truck certified preferred.
  • Able to work in a physically demanding environment including temperature extremes, loud noise, avoiding slipping, tripping, and falling hazards
  • Able to wear and comply with all personal protective equipment (Eye and ear protection, steel-toed shoes, etc.)
  • Able to lift, up to 40 lbs. frequently, between 40 and 50 lbs. occasionally, over 50 lbs. minimally. When lifting 50 lbs. and above, the Technician will use team lifting and overhead crane assistance.
  • Work environment includes exposure to compressed air, steam, lubrication oil, dust, and hydraulic fluid.
  • This is an 8-hour shift position from 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, Monday-Friday. Able to work overtime as needed. Able to be on call as needed to support a 24/7 operation.
