Reporting to the VP, Strategic Communications, your essential job functions will be split across digital and owned content, strategic communications, and administrative duties. You will be responsible for a variety of work, including contributing to the Communications plan by conducting essential research and outreach, maintaining department reports, creating presentations, drafting and posting content, and helping to keep the team coordinated and organized.

 

Location:

This is a hybrid position with in-office and remote work. The selected person will be expected to regularly work two days in the DC office at 11th and K Street, NW. In-office workdays may increase based on business needs. Please note that our office will be moving in November to the corner of 13th and G Street, NW (below Metro Center)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

Digital and Owned Content

  • Contributes to overall owned and digital media strategy execution including writing blog posts, crafting engaging social media content (differentiated by platform) and posting various content to afandpa.org
  • Create digital assets using tools like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Assists in story gathering, drafting and distribution of AF&PA member e-newsletter on bi-weekly basis
  • Monitors member social channels

 

Strategic Communications

  • Assists in the creation of presentations and speeches to support AF&PA staff speaking engagements
  • Develops competency with Sprout Social, LeadLander, Cision and other online research and monitoring tools
  • Conducts earned and digital media influencer research to identify opportunities for engagement both on and off-line

 

Administrative and Additional Duties

  • Maintains Communications planning and archiving as directed, including maintaining department calendar, cataloguing speaking engagements and presentations made by AF&PA staff, and managing distribution lists in email and membership database.
  • Supports office management and organization; maintaining supply closet; liaising with vendors; and producing communications team reports on a monthly, quarterly, and cumulative basis
  • Maintains excellent communication with the team and other departments across the association
  • Other duties, including event support and internal communications, assigned as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

 

  • BA or BS in related field, preferably communications or public relations
  • Two or more years of experience working in an office environment, preferable in a communications or administrative related role
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks with high attention to detail
  • Maintains positive rapport with co-workers
  • Exercises judgment, direction and personal initiative in times of limited supervision
  • High-level computer knowledge/skills preferred (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet, etc.)
  • Grasps new tasks and issues quickly
