The Southern Regional Education Board seeks to hire a Grant Writer. This person understands the importance of education and is motivated by improving the economic mobility of students and, in turn, the vitality of the region. This role is responsible providing research and identification of grant funding sources, composing and submitting grant proposals in a timely manner. This position is located in mid-town Atlanta, and is currently working a hybrid schedule. What does the Grant Writer do?

Works closely with the Director, development to design, to implement           comprehensive grants budget in support of overall. 

Researches and identifies potential government and foundation grant opportunities that align with SREB’s mission and goals; collaborate with program staff to gather relevant information and data needed for grant applications.

Identifies and executes project management strategies ensuring results of high-quality proposals submitted timely. 

Develops and prepares grant proposals, oversees grant submission process including writing, and compiling data; coordinates and manages preparation of grant proposals, ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, ensures internal grant approvals.

Tracks and monitors grants submissions and provides additional information as requested.

Initiates and maintains positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including funders.

Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.

Develops procedures and systems to maintain and archive internal documentation related to assigned grants, including drafts, originals and subsequent versions of proposals, general communication, technical documents, policies and procedures, guidelines, and meeting minutes.

Provides consultation on research strategies, tactics and tools for the development of grants for submission as requested.

Develops and provides staff with templates and boiler plate documents to assist in grant preparation.

Assist with the development and review of internal processes and procedures related to grant management for effectiveness and efficiencies and maximizing funding opportunities.

Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.

Represent the organization with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

 

What does it take to be a Grant Writer?

Bachelor's Degree in Education, Education Research or a related field AND two (2) years of professional experience performing budgetary, operational, and grant funding administration; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Principles and practices of grant program funding and implementation.

Principles and practices of public records management.

Grant research and analysis techniques for determining applicable grant competitions.

Researching, collecting, analyzing, compiling and interpreting economic, technical and statistical data relating to grant programs

Performing professional-level analytical and programmatic work in a variety of areas. 

Meticulous attention to detail to ensure proper and consistent editorial formatting and accuracy of grant submissions.

Principles and practices of project and program management.

Ability to carry out assigned projects from data gathering to completion, including setting milestones for self and others.

Budgetary practices and terminology.

Maintaining records, including accurate financial records and preparing accurate and timely reports.

Principles and practices of contract administration as it applies to grant funding.

Interpreting, applying and explaining applicable laws, codes and regulations.

Preparing clear and concise reports and other written materials.

Techniques for interacting with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person, in virtual meetings, and over the telephone.

Applying independent judgment and initiative within general policy guidelines.

Using tact, discretion and prudence in interacting with those contacted in the course of the work.

Performing accurate arithmetic calculations.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Experience and confidence using Microsoft office, word, Excel and Google Docs, as well as online platforms such as Zoom, Teams, etc.

Ability to travel overnight occasionally.

Successful completion of a background investigation and drug screening.

Valid Driver’s License.

Mobility to work in typical office setting and use standard office equipment; stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person, on virtual meetings, and over the telephone.
