Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Head Men's Basketball Coach, this position is responsible for assisting in all facets of our Men's Basketball program. In addition to basketball technique and tactics teaching/coaching, duties include development of student-athletes and recruitment. This is a 10 month, benefitted position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists the head coach in the college's efforts to foster the athletic development of student-athletes within the men's basketball program.
    • Individual, small group and team skills training
    • Individual, small group and team tactics teaching/coaching
  • Assists the head coach in the college's efforts to foster the academic success of student-athletes within the program.
    • Meets with student-athletes individually to insure academic accountability
    • Provides counsel to help student-athletes navigate the rigors of collegiate academic work
    • Develops and articulates a working knowledge of on and on campus support services available
  • Assists the head coach in the college's efforts to foster the personal growth of student-athletes within the program.
    • Develops and articulates a working knowledge of on and on campus student-health support services available
    • Meets with student-athletes on an as needed basis
  • Assists the head coach in executing an active college community relations program leading to the positive promotion of the men's basketball program and its student athletes.
  • Participates in efforts to recruit qualified student-athletes.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by the Head Men's Basketball Coach and/or the Director of Athletics.

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • One to three years of intercollegiate participation or coaching experience at an NCAA sponsored institution.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes, promoting academic success and personal development.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and ODAC rules and regulations, with a commitment to compliance.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques associated with developing athletes.
  • Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Strong follow-up and follow-through skills as well as ability to plan, organize and control projects through to completion.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Maintain valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Willingness and ability to work effectively with all campus and associated constituencies in the recruitment of student athletes and performance of duties.
  • Have working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook a working familiarity with computer systems (including social media).
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends.
