Coordinator of Residence Life and Housing

Primary office contact, this position sets a tone of hospitality, displaying flexibility in accommodating a wide diversity of contacts as well as showing sensitivity and being responsive to the emergent and ongoing needs of those seeking services.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Staff the front desk and manages the office to include assisting visitors, ensuring adequate supplies, maintaining calendars, routing mail, answering the phone, maintaining copier, etc.
  • Prepare a variety of correspondence, presentation and reports, including salary and expense payment, reconciles credit cards, manages petty cash, transfers & deposits, monitors department and grant expenses against budget.
  • Accurately manage the Residential hall key program and work with Campus Safety and other campus partners as needed.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student assistants, including approving time and troubleshooting payroll.
  • Manage housing data in StarRez and Colleague administrative databases.
  • Coordinate weekly and monthly housing report and send to appropriate campus professionals.
  • Coordinate room changes and waiting list requests; send reports and notifications to appropriate individuals and offices regarding room assignments and changes.
  • Assist in new and returning student room assignment processes.
  • Maintain break occupancy request spreadsheet and TransAct card access system for approved requests; distribute information regarding building occupancy during official break periods.
  • Serve as the department representative on various campus committees.
  • Attend major campus events (specified orientation weekend events, Family Weekend, Alumni Weekend graduation, etc.) as requested.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Previous administrative experience in an academic or higher education setting is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with database management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respond to crisis timely and by following campus protocols.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license required with an ability to get campus vehicle driving certifications.
