Providence is seeking a Manager Clinical Informatics:

As a member of the Providence St. Joseph Health Clinical Informatics management team, the Manager, Ambulatory System Clinical Informatics is responsible in collaboration with the Directors and Medical Informatics for collaborative implementation, support, and on-going optimization of clinical informatics, Caring Reliably framework, IS strategy and other organizational commitments. As a partner for clinical transformation and in collaboration with the, AVP Medical Informatics, AVP Clinical Informatics Ambulatory, CI System Directors, ministry Executives and other clinical and physician leaders, the Manager, Ambulatory System Clinical Informatics manages staff performance in informatics initiatives with an emphasis on information technology and services to support ambulatory care partners in the areas of practice, clinical applications, clinical/administrative decision-making, research and quality improvement initiatives, education, and resource management. He/she combines knowledge of patient care, informatics concepts, and change management to effectively represent the information and knowledge needs and requirements of healthcare professionals and patients and to promote safe, effective, and efficient use of information technology in clinical settings. Scope may include acute care, ambulatory care, and post-acute care settings in designated areas of service.

The incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes a multidisciplinary team concept and reflects the Providence Health mission, vision, values, and philosophy.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:



  • Strategy Development and Alignment: Collaboration
  • Manages the delivery of Providence St. Joseph Health clinical systems strategy in collaboration with other nursing/clinical and medical informatics and operational leaders.
  • Facilitates the PSJH vision for informatics at the system body of work.
  • Maintains relationships with key business partners and other senior industry leaders in order to leverage best practices, evaluate emerging technologies, and distribute knowledge internally to inform plans and strategies.
  • Works with vendors to proactively identify local needs and/or enhancement of clinical information system solutions to meet PSJH business needs.
  • Works with IS Strategy and Business Development in researching and evaluating the effectiveness of technologies that impact clinical users.
  • Management and Leadership
  • Acts as a change agent working with nursing and clinical leadership teams in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and value measurement of overall informatics strategies to support quality patient care and professional practice in area of responsibility adhering to system standards.
  • Serves as a informatics consultant at the ambulatory system level.
  • Incorporates research and evidence-based knowledge into informatics practice.
  • Collaborates to identify educational opportunities and ensures clear and adequate communication of team activities and ensuring use of standardized educational materials.
  • Assists with the coordination of end user go live and ongoing support of new processes and system use.
  • Operations:
  • Disseminate service line communication and strategy to regional operations and supporting informatics partners.
  • Attracts, hires, trains, motivates, retains, and develops a team of first-rate professionals to perform the responsibilities of clinical informaticists.
  • Provides mentorship in informatics for service area/ministry-based informaticists new in their role.
  • Assists to adhere to budgeting and expenditures for Clinical Informatics service area/ministry-based services.
  • Manages to the adherence of the Providence clinical systems strategy in collaboration with the Directors , Nursing and Medical Informatics.
  • Provides local informatics leadership and program management for the collaborative development, implementation, support and on-going optimization of PSJH clinical information systems.
  • Maintains current knowledge of major clinical information systems and electronic health record applications.
  • Assists in coordinating training of end users as needed.
  • Manages interdisciplinary teams to develop clinical data/documentation and workflow standardization to be used enterprise wide.
  • Facilitates the model for managing nursing/clinical requests for changes to clinical information systems; with Directors, Clinical and Medical Informatics, coordinates area clinical systems governance activities.
  • Teams with the Business Continuity team for downtime and disaster recovery projects, policies and procedures and participates in disaster drills for clinical applications.
  • Standards of Performance:
  • Actively supports and incorporates the mission and core values of Providence in daily activities and interactions with all others .
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other information as required by Federal, State, and Company compliance policies.
  • Ensures compliance in self and team with mandatory system training and education efforts.
  • Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of safety and infection control into daily activities as outlined in system and department safety policies/procedures.
  • Customer Service:
  • Develops and collaborates, using data, on individual and team objectives and capacities in the creation, definition, and advancement/support of new and existing standard operating procedures (SOP) and service level agreements (SLA) consistent with PSJH management, IS, and CI priorities with the goal of providing and maintaining excellent, realistic customer service.
  • Measures and reports on individual and team objectives/SOPs/SLAs as required/requested by CI and IS leadership.
  • Advocates for and supports a collaborative and just work environment that maintains and augments employee engagement and satisfaction with a career at PSJH.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and information needs across team and organization, as well as organize short-term responsibilities in response to changing demands
  • Action oriented and in possession of critical thinking, problem solving and cognitive skills.
  • Ability to comprehend customer business needs with respect to customers' requests and PSJH IS objectives, mission, and core values.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, set appropriate priorities, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong program and project management skills; ability to define and lead process improvement projects in a cross-functional setting.


Required qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Business, or other related healthcare field or equivalent educ/experience.
  • 6 years Strong experience in clinical practice, clinical informatics and management. Demonstrated ability to manage and successfully execute strategic plans for highly complex issues. Able to communicate with all levels and manage shifting priorities and accountable for deliverables.
  • 4 years experience in clinical or IT functional management in comparable organizations, including financial and supervisory accountability.
  • 3 years experienced in all areas of program and project management including multiple project integration and process/workflow redesign.
  • 4 years A combination of people management, project management or team management experience in a Leadership role.


Preferred qualifications:



  • Upon hire: Epic Certification in one or more applications.
  • Upon hire: Informatics certifications or credentialing (may be equivalent for up to 2 years of experience for this position at the hiring manger's discretion).
