We are seeking an experienced individual for the position of Director, Residence Life and Housing. This position will provide executive leadership towards creating an engaging and inclusive on-campus living environment that supports student learning and development. The successful candidate will oversee the strategic management of the department and contribute significantly to our student life programs. About Residence Life and Housing:

As a residential campus, we believe in the transformative power of living and learning in close community. We view our campus housing not just as places to sleep or study, but as vibrant, dynamic spaces where learning, growth, and community-building extend beyond the classroom. Students who live on campus are given the unique opportunity to interact more frequently with faculty, staff, and peers, which profoundly shapes their college experience. The director will have the opportunity to help create an atmosphere that fosters skills, resilience, cultural understanding, leadership, and community responsibility, all of which will serve our students throughout their lifetime. First-year and returning students live together in most of our residence halls. Fraternity and sorority houses are also located on campus where they house members of the organizations. There are 27 residence halls on campus, 8 of which are designated Greek housing.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Develop and Implement Residential Programming: Create comprehensive programs that align with our college's liberal arts focus and educational values.

  • Modernize Operations: Lead the overhaul of residence life systems and workflows for enhanced efficiency and modernization.

  • Team Management and Mentorship: Manage and mentor a dedicated team, promoting collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Residential College Model Development: Lead in the creation of a future Residential College model, blending operational innovation with educational principles.

  • Enhance Living-Learning Experience: Ensure residential spaces are dynamic hubs for growth, learning, and community engagement.

  • Safety and Well-being: Maintain a secure environment that supports the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of all residents.

  • Budget Oversight and Resource Management: Manage budgets and resources with a focus on fiscal responsibility and efficiency.

  • Diversity and Inclusivity Advocacy: Champion diversity and inclusivity in residential life through supportive programs and initiatives.

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee housing operations, including student assignments, facilities management, and staff supervision.

  • Community Building: Establish a community ethos based on respect and shared responsibility.

  • Responsive Management: Address student concerns empathetically and promote open dialogue.

  • Crisis Management and Conflict Resolution: Handle incidents with professionalism and empathy, overseeing residential conduct systems.

  • Active Participation in Campus Committees: Engage in campus-wide committees, contributing to broader college initiatives.


Desired Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • A passion for students and the transformational power of higher education.
  • Experience leading others through change, informally and formally, with a positive, action-oriented, and possibility-focused mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage with students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in crisis management and conflict resolution.
  • Familiarity with best practices in residence life and housing, with a particular focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and staff stakeholders to implement programmatic opportunities, including living-learning and affinity-based communities
  • Demonstrated experience in budget management.
  • Fulfill on-call duties as part of a rotational schedule.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities and take initiative in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
