Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to work with any necessary disinfecting agent.
  • Knowledge of SGNA and AGA guidelines, and principles of asepsis.
  • Ability to recognize medical supplies, their use, and daily/monthly usage to correlate with recording cycles as required on the unit as well as understand related reference materials.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations, and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for clinic's customers; to demonstrate an interested, understanding, compassionate and caring manner; to maintain a courteous and calm demeanor; and to use a pro-active approach to negotiate with and persuade others to take required action.
  • Ability to maintain composure, efficiency and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with challenging customers who may be ill, angry, or emotionally distressed.
  • Problem solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve the problem; create and implement viable solutions; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.
  • Decision making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached.
  • Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic environment exists at all times.
  • Complete working knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles and techniques related to area of GI Endoscopy.

Department Description

The GI Unit provides direct patient care for patients undergoing elective, urgent and emergent (main GI Lab only) endoscopic and related procedures in collaboration with licensed. medical staff. This job requires technical skills but also patient care skills, knowledge of' physical anatomy, effective communication and collaboration as part of a multidisciplinary team. Responsibility of this position include but are not limited to responsibility for ensuring that; all procedural equipment and supplies are present, clean, and in working order, pre, intra and post procedure. Assist medical staff pre-intra-and post procedure with various duties including collecting, and preserving specimens and proper disposition of any specimens, and positioning patients.
