Job Description Summary

Collaborates with the Underwriting Sales Manager to design, implement and present sales strategies targeted to potential corporate business sponsors for programming on WFDD. Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and services business sponsors in the Triad region for programming aired by WFDD including: WFDD local programming and special features, NPR/PRI/APM programs, all station online properties, as well as major station events. Meets established sales and collections goals.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Manages accounts to ensure timely collection and increase renewal revenue. Prospects for new business with face-to-face visits, networking events, business leads groups, and performs other work as needed, including but not limited to: working with Traffic Department to ensure that contract confirmations are accurate and that underwriting messages are written, approved, scheduled and air appropriately.
  • Presents proposals to prospective business clients or sponsors; utilizes a range of effective sales and negotiating techniques to secure new and/or renewal underwriting agreements.
  • Monitors and researches all available resources to identify businesses as potential marketers or sponsors. Maintains accurate and current records on assigned business clients.
  • Monitor's agreement fulfillment, scheduling, billing and collection for assigned and developed underwriting clients.
  • Creates, develops, and prepares sales materials to be used in soliciting underwriting clients.
  • Develops, writes, and coordinates messages or copy with clients, production coordinator and sales manager.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, advertising or a related field preferred plus 3 years of direct radio/TV sales experience required.
  • Knowledge of FCC regulations pertaining to messages or copy.
  • Ability to foster a professional work environment.
  • Ability to identify and secure businesses as revenue sources.
  • Ability to display integrity, strong listening skills, and the ability to articulate complex ideas, be organized, efficient, self-motivated, and responsible.
  • Comfortable with the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Should be able to meet the requirements of the University's automobile insurance policy.
