Position Summary:
The Biomedical
Engineering Department (BME) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT)
invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of
Assistant/Associate Professor beginning the 24-25 academic year.

Research
specialties of interest include nervous system injury (including traumatic
brain injury, computational and experimental biomechanics, and tissue
engineering), neuromuscular biomechanics (including 3-D motion capture, imaging
and function, and computational simulation) and rehabilitation engineering
(including exoskeletons and other assistive devices, virtual reality, and
telemedicine).

NJIT and the
Department of Biomedical Engineering is committed to building excellence
through an inclusive faculty, staff, and student body. The department consists
of 17 tenured and tenure track faculty members and serves over 450 students in
an ABET accredited program. BME at NJIT offers a vibrant, diverse engineering
community and environment with exciting opportunities for research and
education. The department has strong collaborative research programs including the Center for Injury Biomechanics,
Materials and Medicine centers.njit.edu/cibm3, the Center for Rehabilitation
Robotics centers.njit.edu/rehabilitation, and a state-of-the-art Motion
Capture Lab, https://mocap.njit.edu/. Interdisciplinary centers and institutes across the campus
(http://centers.njit.edu/) provide access to comprehensive, state-of-the-art
core facilities and facilitate collaborative research activities. Universities,
research institutes and industrial facilitates in the vicinity of NJIT further
increase collaboration opportunities and access to experimental equipment. NJIT
also has a 10,000 square-foot Makerspace, a venue where students test ideas,
visualize and construct projects, and apply complex technologies, machines, and

Essential Functions:
Candidates are
expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Biomedical Engineering;
conduct research; and provide service to the department, college, university
and the profession. They should participate in student advising and program
support.

Additional Functions:
Assistance with
recruiting of new faculty and graduate students; outreach activities to other
universities and professional associations.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
- A Ph.D/D.Sc
degree in biomedical engineering or closely related field. High quality scholarly achievements and a
commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education.
- Holders of
this faculty position are expected to generate a significant externally-funded
research program in their areas of specialization.
- At the university's discretion,
the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate
can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent
combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate
for success in the position.
