Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Alumni Relations and the Sacramento State Alumni Association, the Alumni Chapters and Networks Officer, is directly responsible for developing, implementing and administering all aspects of alumni chapters, networks and affinity groups for our 275,000+ alumni.

The incumbent leads the building and strengthening of relationships with alumni, members, volunteers, donors and friends through chapters, networks and affinity groups in support of Sacramento State. The incumbent's responsibilities include: (1) program leadership, coordination and providing direction to 80+ alumni volunteer leaders related organizational structure, events, activities and programs; (2) recruiting, training, and motivating, these alumni volunteer leaders, including providing redirection as needed; (3) formulating, implementing, and maintaining standard operating policies and procedures; (4) developing and monitoring program budgets and strategic plans; (5) overseeing the development of collateral materials and communications necessary to foster broad alumni engagement; and (6) providing ongoing analysis and evaluation of chapter, network and affinity group programs.

The Alumni Chapters and Networks Officer will coordinate use of all mediums including print, email, web, online community and social media in promoting these groups and related engagement programs, then track results, prepare reports and present them to the Alumni Board and campus administrators.

The incumbent develops and maintains relationships with a wide variety of campus partners, alumni and community members, including the Deans of each college and their Directors of Development. The Alumni Chapters and Networks Officer is also the lead in working with volunteers serving on the Alumni Board of Directors Chapter Engagement Committee, ensuring that discussion is meaningful and leads to program development, volunteer engagement and increased alumni participation.

Overall, the Alumni Chapters and Networks Officer supports the goals of Alumni Relations and the mission of the Sacramento State Alumni Association, to connect, engage, and celebrate alumni, students and friends of Sacramento State while building lifelong relationships that support the future of our University.

FLSA: Exempt (not eligible for overtime)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,022 per month - $6,000 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,022 per month - $9,083 per month

Operating as an interdependent alumni organization, Alumni Relations (a campus department) and the Sacramento State Alumni Association (a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization), our mission is to connect, engage and celebrate the alumni, students and friends of Sacramento State while building lifelong relationships that support the future of our University.

To accomplish this, we engage volunteer leaders through the Alumni Association Board of Directors, Board Committees, and Alumni Chapters and Networks, in encouraging philanthropic support, supporting the mission of the University and overall striving to create an inclusive community of engaged alumni.

We are responsible for planning and funding engagement programs, alumni recognition/awards events, mixers, reunions, recent graduate activities, student engagement, and alumni communications. In addition to these engagement opportunities, we award scholarships, manage and maintain the Leslie & Anita Harper Alumni Center, solicit programmatic sponsorships and scholarship donations, and support Alumni Association Membership.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience coordinating, directing and managing volunteers, and volunteer programs.
  3. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively in developing and recommending program goals, policies and procedures for assigned segments of the alumni engagement program with minimal supervision.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers in a non-profit, board structured organization.
  5. Experience working with project and/or program budgets.
  6. Knowledge of financial recordkeeping and related procedures.
  7. Highly developed problem-solving skills, with demonstrated sound judgement in identifying issues, evaluating the situation, interpreting and applying policies and procedures, defining objectives, and formulating a recommended plan of action.
  8. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations.
  9. Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus
  10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  11. Excellent organizational and detail-oriented skills to meet deadlines and achieve established goals.
  12. Proficiency in policy and process documentation.
  13. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  14. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  15. Ability to assist with event planning and coordination.
  16. Demonstrated project management and organizational skills; ability to set priorities and meet deadlines, while balancing multiple projects and maintaining accuracy
  17. Ability to compile, write, and present report.
  18. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.

Work Schedule Requirements:

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Two to four years of progressively responsible experience in a university, not-for-profit, philanthropic or member-based environment, preferably in Alumni Relations, with demonstrated use of technology solutions.
  2. Experience using a complex customer relationship management (CRM) database.
  3. Experience working with fundraising
