What you'll do

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be analyzing and help in developing novel satellite and terrestrial laser communication technologies. Will also define directions and engage engineering teams by providing the vision to help achieve the program's technical goals.


The day-to-day

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct Free-space laser communications systems engineering type trades and analysis.
  • Provide system design and hardware development of ultra-high-rate satellite payloads, terrestrial links and feederlinks to satellite, and prepare new lasercom concept proposals
  • Establish and extend customer relationships to expand new business opportunities that involve both government and commercial customers.

What you'll need

  • 5+ years' of professional experience in Laser Communications Systems Engineering and or Program Direction
  • Proven experience with systems engineering of free-space laser communication systems
  • Direct relevant experience with program: planning; monitoring and control; financial accounting; contracts; and risk management
  • Demonstrated experience with successful design and development of optical and laser-communication systems for terrestrial or satellite applications
  • Experience with flight optical payloads
  • Ability to perform complex systems level analysis
  • Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to sophisticated challenges
  • Fundamental understanding of optical and communication systems from specifications and first principles
  • Master's degree in an Engineering, Science or technical subject area
  • US government position. US citizenship required
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI when administratively feasible
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

What will help you on the job

  • PhD degree in a relevant Engineering subject area
  • Proven experience in optical systems control for precision beam-pointing
  • Experience with flight qualification of optical systems, fiberoptic systems and components
  • Active TS/SCI Security clearance with SSBI
  • Experience with payload and/or electronics development for satellite applications

Salary range

$202,300.00 - $351,600.00 / annually
