WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY's Department for the Study of Religions invites applications for a tenure-track position in Hebrew Bible with a focus on religion in society, reception history, and/or cultural studies at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 2024.

We seek highly qualified candidates whose research, teaching, and/or service demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in all its forms. Candidates engaging intersectional, minoritized, and/or contextual approaches to biblical studies are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a relevant area with graduate-level training in the field of religious studies, as well as demonstrated specialization in the Hebrew Bible. Advanced training in Hebrew language is expected, as well as knowledge of pertinent languages and literatures of the ancient Near East used in biblical study. The candidate should command relevant philological and critical approaches to the text and have a firm grounding in interdisciplinary methods.

We are especially interested in candidates whose research and/or teaching include (but are not limited to) the intersection of the Hebrew Bible and, in no particular order, ecology/environment, gender/sexuality, race/ethnicity, body/health/disability, politics/social justice, the Global South, and/or violence/trauma. The successful candidate will be expected to offer innovative and dynamic courses at the upper level to undergraduates on such topics.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach introductory courses, including Introduction to the Bible, and Theory and Method in the Study of Religion. The teaching load is nine courses over four semesters, housed in the Department for the Study of Religions.
