Senior Development Associate (Fundraising)

HSS Foundation-Development Department

The Senior Development Associate is a key member of a dynamic fundraising team for the nation's leading orthopedics and rheumatology academic medical center. Working closely with the Chief Development Officer and Vice President, Development, the Sr. Associate will provide critical support for all aspects of their work including the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and prospects, and assisting in the planning and execution of meetings and small events. The Sr. Associate supports the full range of the fundraising process by arranging appointments and meetings; assisting with mailings; collaborating on written materials including briefings, proposals, and acknowledgements; researching prospects and donors; and updating prospect/donor activity in the departmental database. The position will get exposure to executives and teams across the organization, helping to drive and support the strategic priorities of the Development Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Foster critical relationships established by CDO and VP, Development with key internal and external stakeholders and their assistants, including the HSS executive leadership team, physicians, and board members.
  • Help draft compelling correspondence to donors and prospects, including proposals, stewardship reports, and personalized acknowledgement letters.
  • Assist the CDO and VP, Development with the cultivation and stewardship of high net worth individuals by ensuring all information is captured in the departmental database and next steps are tracked.
  • Create systems for tracking progress with donors and prospects to reflect progress of the relationship and progress toward securing gifts.
  • Assist with researching potential donors in collaboration with the Research Team.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of donor meetings and events, which includes scheduling, coordinating logistics with the special events team and preparing briefing materials and remarks for volunteer leadership, senior administrators, and physicians, etc.
  • Gain understanding of the department's goals and vision, and how they relate to the overall organization and mission of HSS.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum two years of professional work experience is required. Experience in fundraising and/or healthcare and hospitals is highly desired.

COMPETENCIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Collaborative team player; flexible and resourceful; able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performing environment and quickly with the HSS Development leadership team.
  • Effective at managing up and helping to direct workflow.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; unquestionable personal integrity; and diplomatic and discreet.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills. (A writing test is required)
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to easily learn other software and database systems. Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar application required.
  • Outstanding project and time management skills; ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize effectively.
  • Highly confident and dedicated, with the necessary drive and energy to respond to the demands of a high-performing fundraising office and world-renowned medical institution.
  • Exceptional attention to detail while acutely aware of the "big picture."
  • Passion for the HSS mission.
