Purpose

Manage and respond to the needs of customers and enterprise management for internal and external research applications in support of the mission of Dell Medical School and UT Health Austin. Understand and keep abreast of the biomedical and health research applications ecosystem to provide guidance on emerging tools and best practices. Coordinate installation and maintenance of research applications, with a strong focus on anticipating and meeting the needs of the researchers, and striving to deliver secure, robust solutions in a timely and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

Research Applications Infrastructure Management:

  • Support, maintain, and manage Redcap, a research database application, and a variety of research application tools using approved processes/protocols, with a particular focus on applications that require active installation and development.

  • Provide guidance to customers and management by keeping abreast of best practices and industry standards while also remaining aware of developments in biomedical and health research applications.

  • Develop and maintain research application system governance policies and procedures in collaboration with the security and compliance teams in Enterprise IT.

  • Work closely with the security team in Enterprise IT (and DMS/UTHA compliance teams, as needed) to establish and maintain infrastructure to monitor research application systems for compliance with regulatory, internal, and partner requirements.

  • Provide guidance to DevOps or other staff members who serve as backup support on these applications for the research community.

Research Applications Support and Education:

  • Actively reach out to DMS research teams and research management to determine and anticipate upcoming Redcap and other research application needs.

  • Provide researchers and other enterprise team members with the necessary group and individual Redcap training needed to efficiently and effectively use research applications.

  • Create and maintain an online pedagogical library of documentation and videos to provide self-service education for research team members on Redcap and other research application tools.

  • Follow a documented and transparent process for Redcap and other research applications usage in the Dell Med research community with an overarching service orientation and customer satisfaction approach.

  • Serve as a resource to investigators, clinicians, and faculty to answer questions related to data needs and integrations.

  • Work closely with programmers, analysts, and staff in Enterprise IT and with external data teams in Dell Medical School's research partner institutions.

  • Work closely with other Enterprise IT teams, the Biomedical Data Science Hub, and other teams as needed.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with a quantitative focus such as: BS in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Decision Science, Information Systems or Information Sciences. At least 3 years experience in a related field such as research assistant, research coordinator, preferably in a health-related environment. Familiarity with research applications and application engineering. Basic statistical knowledge for descriptive statistics and data cleaning/validation. Working knowledge of database management principles and various data architectures. Experience of working in interdisciplinary teams. Problem solving and customer support skills. Applicant must be authorized to work in the United States, without employer sponsorship, on a full time basis for any employer. Preferred Qualifications

Redcap application experience, preferably with administration and support of Redcap. Familiarity with the randomization module for blinded studies or other use cases requiring randomization. Practical understanding of advanced concepts, practices, and procedures related to the following: Data management procedures to prepare data sets for analyses. Management and analysis of large, complex clinical/non-clinical data. Translation of research questions into appropriate statistical methods. Common statistical packages such as Python, SAS, Stata, R, or SPSS. Programming in SQL, Python or C++. Data privacy practices and laws to ensure privacy, confidentiality and security. IRB/Institutional approval process. Various business and legal data use agreements. Master's degree in medical informatics or a related field. Experience in a medical or healthcare field.

Salary Range

$70,000 + depending on qualifications
