Position description

The Institute for Business and Social Impact at UC Berkeley seeks to hire a candidate who applies pioneering and rigorous analysis to policy relevant topics in economics finance, and related fields. This position frees scholars from teaching and administrative responsibilities, allowing them to focus on research during the early stages of their careers. The postdoctoral fellow will have many opportunities for intellectual exchanges across the UC Berkeley campus

Duties of Position:

The position offers direct engagement in new and exciting research opportunities and personal mentorship from faculty and other researchers on the team. Scholars will gain an expanded network of collaborators and become members of the UC Berkeley research community by actively participating in seminar series and taking advantage of various internal workshops to present and receive feedback on their work. The fellow will also have time for their own complementary research.


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in a Ph.D. or equivalent international degree program at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) by the start date.

No more than four years of post-degree research experience.

Preferred qualifications

Familiarity with field work and field experiments.

Previous experience developing research projects in collaboration with non-academic stakeholders (NGOs, governments, or industry partners).

Ph.D in economics, finance, and related fields who are interest in Applied Microeconomics, Development Economics, Fintech and Financial Inclusion, as well as Behavioral Economics are invited to apply.

Scholars with strengths in applied micro-econometrics, field experiments, and applied data science (including machine learning and computational methods with unstructured data) are particularly encouraged.

Advanced programming skills in R/Stata.

Strong quantitative skills (coursework in econometrics and statistics) Excellent organizational and data management skills.

Fluency and excellent communication skills in English.

Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and work in teams.
