JOBCentral Coast Community Energy (CCCE) is seeking a Power Resource Planner to join our team! Under the direction of the Director of Power Supply Resources, this position has responsibility for supporting efforts of effective power resource planning, especially with regard to short-term trading and optimal scheduling of clean and renewable resources under contract. ABOUT THE POSITION: This is a program management level position in the Power Supply Resources Department. The Power Resource Planner will be responsible for leading resource planning, short-term trading, and optimal scheduling of clean and renewable resources.ABOUT US:Central Coast Community Energy (CCCE) is a Community Choice Aggregation agency established by local communities to source clean and renewable electricity for 435,000 customers in Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara counties. CCCE’s board of directors represents 34 local city and county governments throughout the Central Coast. CCCE is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through local control of utility scale renewable electricity generation provided at competitive rates and the implementation of innovative energy programs that facilitate the electrification of transportation and built environments. CCCE has contracted for 889 MW of long-term renewable resources and 261 MW of battery storage in furtherance of its goal to reach 100% GHG-free energy by 2030. During the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, CCCE provided immediate financial relief to its customers by deferring $22.4M in generation charges. CCCE has allocated more than $12M toward its community energy programs. World-famous for Pebble Beach, Carmel by the Sea, the Monterey Jazz Festival, golf, resorts and a Mediterranean atmosphere, Monterey is a unique location less than 90 minutes from the San Francisco Bay Area.EXAMPLE OF DUTIESThe ideal candidate should possess energy data science experience and expertise to assist in expanding and managing our energy procurement analytical capabilities and systems, with the following responsibilities:Provide lead analytical support to the Front Office in managing CCCE’s electric supply portfolio which includes maintaining, monitoring and reporting net open position, supply costs and risks.Assist in the implementation, management, optimization, and scheduling of contracted clean and renewable energy resources and/or energy storage systems.Develop and manage models & tools to provide managerial reports of CCCE’s portfolio cost, revenues and risks.Support procurement efforts to meet various CCCE objectives and/or compliance requirements including energy hedges, resource adequacy, and RPS.Assist in the development of clean and renewable energy and/or energy storage procurement strategies.Support the monitoring and evaluation of existing load forecasting models to improve upon their accuracy.Work with other CCAs to coordinate joint procurement related to resource adequacy and clean and renewable resources.Support integrated resource planning, modeling and implementation efforts.Assist the development and implementation of systems, processes, plans and reports to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, standards, mandates and regulatory requirements related to providing electricity as a load serving entity in California including meeting the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS), resource adequacy, power content label reporting, and integrating resource planning requirements.Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.In addition to the duties above, the Planner also:Evaluates, develops, implements, and manages CCCE’s energy risk management policies, load forecasting, and cost of energy forecasting.Formulates, recommends and/or implements actions for improvement of risk management and cost of energy models.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAny combination of education and experience that would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities needed for this position. A typical way to obtain the education and experience would include: Education:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Statistics, Accounting, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Economics, or other quantitative discipline. AND Experience:At least seven (7) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities described above. Experience at an electric utility, municipal utility, Community Choice Aggregation program or in a closely related field is highly desirable. Technical experience in the management of contracts is required.Desired Experience and Knowledge:Principles of electricity generation, transmission, distribution and infrastructure.Strong understanding of statistics, machine learning, and optimization algorithms and principles, and their application.Regulatory and legislative activities relating to Resource Adequacy, Renewable Portfolio Standard and decarbonization, distributed energy resources, demand response.Familiarity with policies and procedures at the CPUC, CEC, CARB, BAAQMD and the California ISO related to wholesale energy market, compliance related programs and products and greenhouse gas emissions and power content reporting.Deep subject matter expertise in wholesale and retail power markets and resource planningAbility to: Ability to work independently or with a team, as needed.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and GIS software.Superior project management skills, including managing multiple priorities.Superior people management experience and skills.Self-directed and comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up environment.Excellent written and oral communication skills.SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATIONThe starting salary will be commensurate with the experience, qualifications, and skills of the successful candidate.
