Job Description

The Market Segment Director (MSD) will own the program strategy and execution of a portfolio of products, sold to domestic and international Satellite and Payload Dispensing customers. The MSD will drive top-line growth and margin expansion through direct leadership of a team of Program Managers and as part of a cross-functional team including engineering, operations, and other support functions. Critical to the long-term success of this market segment, the MSD must be a solid strategic thinker who can analyze the marketplace, assess the voice of the customer, formulate a strategic vision and effectively communicate the strategy to lead an organization. Other responsibilities as indicated below.

Responsibilities:

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Own market segment bookings, revenue, gross margins and operating capital.
  • Plan, manage, and report on customer and company funded development programs.
  • Provide oversight and approval for sales and bid & proposal activities.
  • Review and approve the annual program operating plans.
  • Contribute to the improvement in working capital.

Program Management Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all external customer communication through formal letters, program reviews, customer visits and regular meetings.
  • Adopt PM tools and systems necessary to keep current with best practices.
  • Support and/or lead the proposal development process.
  • Perform team lead function within assigned projects.
  • Monitor and manage program risk management activities.

Strategy and New Business Development Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage in the company's strategic planning process to recommended new business pursuits, R&D projects, or capability expansion.
  • Utilize strategic tools, such as voice of the customer, competitive & market analysis, to formulate strategic initiatives
  • Work with Business Development Managers in identifying & capturing new program opportunities
  • Drive the business capture process on key strategic wins and oversee capture for follow-on contracts.

Leadership and Management Responsibilities

  • Mentor and coach program team members to positively influence knowledge, understanding and competence in the execution of programs and in their dealings with customers.
  • Set priorities among direct reports and segment program/business development activities.
  • Manage annual goals & objectives and perform performance management.

Requirements:

The following are requirements:

  • BS in a technical or business discipline
  • 15+ years of experience, in the Aerospace and Defense industry in functions such as technical sales, project engineering, business administration and/or program management.
  • Solid understand of Program and Project Management.
  • Understanding and experience with strategic planning and execution.
  • Fundamental knowledge of financial concepts such as sales, gross margin, operating income, balance sheets, and working capital.
  • Fundamental knowledge of manufacturing concepts such as root cause & corrective action, six sigma, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Proficient with Microsoft office suite software.

The following are preferred:

  • MBA
  • Prior Satellite and/or Payload Dispensing market background
  • PMP certification

Compensation:

Salary Range: $165,000 - $215,000 per year. Salary is determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
