This is an INTERNAL recruitment open to current, permanent WA State Dept of Corrections Employees only.

The Mission of Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is to improve public safety by positively changing lives.

Our agency is looking to fill a full-time, permanent WMS02 Community Corrections Supervisor (CCS) position within the Community Corrections Division (CCD). This position is responsible for the supervision and management of 14 Corrections Specialist 3 (CS3) positions who are responsible for transition and supervision of individuals releasing to the Individualized Community Oriented Accountability Collaborative Help (iCoach) program's Community Reintegration phase and to assure compliance with practices as it relates to RCWs, WACs, policy directives, and risk. The location of this position is dependent upon the successful candidate.

The CCS is an integral part of the Community Corrections Division management team. You will also be responsible for:
  • The overall management of staff located throughout various field units in the state.
  • Supervision of individuals who have committed a crime as it relates to RCWs, WACs, policy directives, and offender risk.
  • Supervises Community Corrections Specialists and other corrections staff in a field office.
  • Developing, coordinating and supervising various specialized DOC initiatives and programs for staff and individuals who have committed a crime.
  • Local implementation and quality assurance of these various programs.
  • Educating stakeholders in community corrections initiatives while building effective relationships with the local communities.

Duties

  • Supervise and manage staff, facilities, and work performed in assigned units.
    • Focusing on reentry support, transition, and resource development for individuals releasing to iCoach Community Reintegration.
  • Implement, direct, and evaluate statewide programs/policies (such as risk management and community involvement).
  • Promote and uphold supervision standards and practices of the agency.
  • Completion of other administrative/managerial tasks.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Current, permanent WA State Department of Corrections Employee.
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in Community Corrections or a related field.
  • Two years supervisory or lead experience which can be gained concurrently with the required experience listed above.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
The successful candidate will also possess the following REQUIRED knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to provide positive leadership in times of stress, conflict, and unforeseen events:
    • Remain calm and rational while handling difficult situations to include, volatile, threatening, or other crisis/emergency situations.
    • Expertly intervene in response to threats.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of the management and supervision of individuals who have committed a crime, including behavior management, classification process, sanitation, and security and safety which includes preparation of individuals' transition back into the community.
  • Experience working with other governmental and/or social service entities in the development or implementation of a program, project, or other joint venture.
  • Desirable Qualifications
    • Knowledge of Department of Corrections policies/procedures, RCWs, WACs, and ACA standards.
    • Experience applying Sentencing Reform Act, particularly as it pertains to Community Placement, the Offender Accountability Act, and Sentencing Alternatives.
    • Experience in the effective applications of Human Resource practices to maintain a trained and diverse workforce.
