Overview:

We are looking for an Assistant Payroll Manager to join our fast-paced North America finance organization. Ideal candidate will have critical analysis, problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as attention to detail and the ability to organize and prioritize work to focus on achieving key results. This role reports directly to Senior Payroll Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • In-charge of semi-monthly payroll for our Canadian subsidiary.

  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.

  • Responsible for timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, bonuses and other pays; benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.

  • Achieve resolution of complex payroll issues by analyzing problems and determining corrective action and entries as needed.

  • Prepare monthly close payroll reconciliation and entries.

  • Understand new payroll, wage tax laws, and implement processes to comply with them.

  • Review and prepare adjustments to payroll related corrections or retroactive changes.

  • Coordinate with HR and ADP on payroll changes.

  • Maintain and safeguard payroll records.

  • Compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and best practice.

  • Provide support to internal and external audits, as well as ad-hoc requests.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years payroll in charge experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred.

  • Trustworthy with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong understanding of US and Canada payroll operations.

  • Experience in processing high-volume, multi jurisdiction payroll.

  • In-depth experience with ADP WFN is desired.

  • Knowledge of payroll accounting entries and reconciliations.

  • Possess sound judgment, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage and safeguard confidential and sensitive data.

  • Must have a strong teamwork orientation, as well as solid written / verbal communication skills.

  • Proven management skill with two or more direct reports.

  • Must be able to work flexible/defined schedules based on payroll needs.

  • Able to juggle multiple priorities and acts independently to ensure quality work is completed timely.

  • Work collaboratively with Human Resources.

  • Strong ability for recognizing better and innovative ways to accomplish objectives and improve processes.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
