Responsibilities

The Strategic Systems Engineering Test Equipment group at Draper is seeking a Test Equipment Development Engineer to work within multidisciplinary teams to develop and provide full system lifecycle development and management of complex electrical, mechanical and software-based test equipment. Responsibilities include:

    Development of strategic systems and sensor test equipment through the product lifecycle
  • Gain a strong understanding of the Unit Under Test system engineers to derive requirements and design and architecture for test equipment
  • Utilize Model Based Systems Engineering approaches to develop open/flexible architectures to be used across programs and units under test
  • Explore machine learning, artificial intelligence and digital engineering architecture solutions and ability to engage with subject matter experts across the organization
  • Develop, maintain and upgrade hardware and software for new and existing test equipment systems
  • Apply strong systems engineering principles to the test equipment develop process, or product development process which could include leading the Integration & Test processes and data package development and release
  • Key job elements include the ability to translate requirements and functions of the units under test including highly accurate strategic sensors, inertial navigation systems and fault tolerant computing for enhanced ground testing, integration and test environments, engineering qualification, surveillance, and factory acceptance test equipment architecture (e.g. rate tables, centrifuges)


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • M.S. Degree in in ME, EE, CE/CS or Physics or a B.S. and 2+ years of experience
  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and capable of working at a high technical level with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in developing and documenting related activities (plans, procedures, software or hardware design documentation).
  • Excellent communication, collaborative, and interpersonal skills are required working in a process driven environment complying with procedures.
  • The ability to document designs for distribution and present to a technical audience is desired.
  • Comfortable working with lab equipment (scopes, meters, power supplies), Hardware in the Loop, and embedded software environments
  • Systems engineering experience relevant to Test Equipment Development, Integration and Test or other relevant domain

Preferred Qualifications:

  • System data analysis and Matlab development
  • Software development experience (C++, Labview, Python, Java, TCL, SQL)
  • Experience in any of the following areas is a plus: GN&C systems, inertial instruments, vibration, signal processing, data acquisition and analysis, control theory, system modeling and test, integration and test of HW and SW elements, electronics-based components and subassemblies (breadboard HW, etc.).
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or systems engineering development process
  • Domain experience with test equipment development experience for strategic GN&C systems, sensors or electronics modules
  • Experience with requirements development and traceability and open architecture/adaptable test equipment development
  • Experience with Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and/or Digital Engineering design
