Company Overview

Cell Signaling Technology, Inc. (CST) is a private, family owned, worldwide leader in the development and commercialization of antibodies, assays and research tools. As a company of scientists for scientists, we have developed XMT technology, a proprietary method to develop exceptional monoclonal antibodies, PTMScan, a technology to discover protein post-translational modifications, and PhosphoSitePlus, an online resource for investigation of post-translational modifications. We are passionate about our role in contributing to the life science industry's advancing of the human condition through accelerating the discovery and development of innovative therapies for human disease. We are fully committed to developing new research tools to help define the mechanisms underlying cell function and disease, thereby broadly accelerating progress in biomedical research and medicine.

The role

Our team is growing, and we are looking for a highly motivated Investigator to join the Bioinformatics & Data Sciences team. This scientist will lead and support computational efforts involving spatial proteomics and transcriptomics multiplexing, and single cell based platforms. This role requires strong bioinformatics or data science background with image analysis, genomics, and immunology expertise.

A successful candidate will implement state-of-the-art methods, and design analysis workflows for multiplexed "omics" platforms, aiming to provide molecular phenotyping. This includes image analysis and quantification at the single-cell resolution with spatial context, and generating insights related to the underlying biology.

The candidate will bring additional bioinformatics, data science, and machine learning expertise to CST, and work within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The candidate is also expected to lead and manage a small team of computational biologists and have the ability to forge strong links with individual contributors and cross-functional teams. These teams are composed of both wet and dry lab scientists, data engineers, software developers, and business analysts.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage a small team computational biologists
  • Lead the development of novel multiplex immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (mIF), in situ hybridization (ISH), and single-cell platforms and data analysis workflows, in collaboration with the laboratory and engineering teams
  • Implement advanced image analysis algorithms (cell segmentation, cell phenotyping, quantifications of marker expression, and spatial analysis) and workflows
  • Build scalable pipelines to perform image processing and analysis of multiplex images, including images derived from spatial proteomics and spatial transcriptomics
  • Integrate various modalities of single-cell sequencing, spatial genomics, and proteomics data and glean insights into underlying biology
  • Analyze complex biological datasets by deploying statistical methods and visualization tools
  • Collaborate with software and cloud engineers to build production-scale pipelines
  • Maintain knowledge of current scientific literature relevant to the role
  • Present both strategy and project findings in a group setting and cross-functional teams, both internally and externally

Requirements

  • A PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience post graduate school
  • Minimum of 2+ years leadership experience in managing a scientific team
  • Demonstrated experience in image processing, image analysis and data science using commercial and/or open-source solutions
  • Demonstrated experience in single-cell bioinformatics approaches and tools
  • Established publication record
  • Experience leading and/or mentoring.
  • Excellent communication, written, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in multiplex imaging in an academic or industry setting
  • Strong knowledge of image processing techniques
  • Strong knowledge of immunology and oncology is a plus!
  • Experience with machine learning and network modeling approaches applied to biological systems
  • Comfortable working with large-scale datasets
