Responsibilities
The General Accountant 4 performs moderately-to-highly complex professional accounting and financial duties for the Health System. Plans, develops and coordinates moderately-to-highly complex professional financial analysis in a highly independent manner and have a comprehensive knowledge of general ledger and budgetary systems, accounting, and healthcare financial practices. Prepares financial analyses and reports including variance analysis reports, statistical reports, and other ad-hoc financial reports for presenting to various levels of personnel, from departmental staff to senior management. Provides analytical support to improve finance processes.
Acts as a general accounting liaison to various departments on an assortment of moderately-to-highly complex projects, including system implementations, process designs and redesigns, and financial system training. Prepares recommendations and financial models to assist the organization in improving Medical Center general accounting recording and reporting. Additional areas of responsibility include monthly closing journal entries and reconciliations, internal and external audit support, cross training with the School of Medicine Accountant IV, School of Medicine financial reporting, and a wide variety of on-going and ad hoc financial functions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accountancy or related field
  • Several years of experience in accounting
  • Advanced knowledge in accounting and financial management principles, theory and practice including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles in Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB) environment
  • Excellent Excel skills, including formatting, Vlookups, IFs, Sumifs, and Pivot Tables
  • Demonstrated professional level of analytical, statistical and mathematical skills to conduct complex financial analyses
  • Experience using a General Ledger system
  • Experience in leading assigned projects, seeing project through from beginning to end with little or no direction to a successful conclusion
  • Experience in summarizing, analyzing and accurately reporting on large volumes of data using multiple systems in a timely manner
  • Proven teamwork skills with the ability to successfully be a member of a multi-functional team and to contribute to moderately complex projects
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA license or CPA candidate highly preferred
