KPMG is currently seeking a Director, Independence to join our Risk Management organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply comprehensive or specialist-level knowledge of SEC, PCAOB and AICPA independence rules and thoughtful analysis in real-time, demonstrating an ability to analogize independence matters with varied fact patterns and consistently apply guidance in providing technical advice or other solutions to field professionals and/or other IG professionals
  • Provide active coaching, mentoring and knowledge-sharing with junior staff to advance their career development; and manage and review those team members' work product; contribute to planning for short term needs, such as projects and processes; and may construct annual plan for deployment of those resources; may have people management responsibility for a mid-sized to small team of entry level through intermediate level professionals
  • Lead multiple key projects, processes, programs, and inquiries that require advanced technical knowledge and research skills. Make independent decisions related to required responsibilities and use judgment to regularly make decisions on high risk and complex matters.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and significantly contribute to innovation through implementation of enhancements that create high client value, process efficiencies, and/or enhanced quality
  • Frequently interface with partners/managing directors of the Independence Group and functional leadership regarding execution of responsibilities and significantly contribute to the achievement of Independence Group objectives and priorities by participating in the development of and executing tactical plans that improve client service and create incremental client value, cost savings, and process re-engineering
  • Regularly interface with Audit, Tax, and/or Advisory partners and professionals and, in some cases, external clients, to provide guidance and resolve questions regarding the application of professional independence standards and deliver training on the independence standards; establish credibility as a key advisor by providing advice and recommendations to significantly improve client service based on in-depth understanding of client's long-term business needs

Qualifications:

  • Minimum ten years of recent experience with medium to complex risk initiatives and programs in public accounting firm or equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or Master's Degree preferred from an accredited college/university, preferably in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent programs, applying expertise to make concrete decisions that impact the Risk organization and the firm
  • Outstanding verbal/written communication, collaboration, negotiation, and influencing skills to lead an environment driven by customer service and teamwork; ability to direct, motivate and empower others to work towards the organization's goals, ensuring efficient allocation of resources across multiple functions
  • Ensure execution of strategic initiatives for the organization; ability to address emerging opportunities and how organization should be organized/staffed to realize them
