The US Market Access Therapeutic Area Strategy Head will lead a team of associates dedicated to optimizing the market access strategy for launch and inline brands for one or more therapeutic area (TA) of focus. This role is responsible for hiring and mentoring a team of people focused on crafting and ensuring the delivery of launch access strategies for their respective TA(s), as well as developing and evolving long-term market access strategies for each product within their TA(s), with significant impact to brands generating $6-9B in annual sales. This team will work across the US market access organization to ensure that strategies reflect the expertise across the different specialties within the US market access, marketing, and field organizations and are optimally acted upon. Specifically, the US Market Access Therapeutic Area Strategy Head works cross functionally with multiple US functions, including other Market Access teams (e.g., Strategic Pricing & Contracting, Pull-through Analytics, Patient & Support Services, Finance) as well as the Product, Integrated Marketing, and Customer Engagement Organizations to create a fully integrated US Managed Markets strategy across all major payer segments that positions products for optimal payer coverage, affordability for appropriate patients, and durable value for Novartis.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
* Hiring and fostering a team of directors and associate directors that, together, are expert in all facets of US market access such that they can represent the collective market access strategies across the organization
* Ensuring the US Innovative Medicines Leadership Team (IMLT) is well-informed of product opportunities and challenges at any given time
* Leading long-term product-specific strategy plans that extend our planning view beyond the 1- to 2-year timeframe led by the Account Management, Pricing & Channel Strategy team
* Identifying market events that would serve as a trigger to pivot from current Market Access strategies and outline alternate strategies to minimize potential market volatility
* Partnering with Market Access Acct Management and Pricing & Channel Strategy to ensure that annual forecasts are accurate and reflect the latest market events
* Functioning as the key point of contact for US and Global product teams, participating in all relevant product meetings and ensuring that other Market Access functions are involved and present as appropriate
* Managing expectations across the organizations regarding Market Access conditions for individual products

This is a US based position. No international relocation will be provided for this position.

This position will be located at the East Hanover site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will require 20% travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international).

Minimum requirements

What you'll bring to the role:
Education: Bachelor's degree required; MBA, Health Policy or equivalent preferred

Experience:
* A minimum of 10 years of pharmaceutical industry experience, with at least 5 years of people management and development experience in a matrixed environment
* Thorough understanding, knowledge of and experience with US healthcare dynamics and the drivers of pharmaceutical value
* Proven ability to navigate complex customers and build relationships across all key stakeholders, including executive management
* Demonstrated prioritization, organizational, and analytical skills as well as the ability to create solutions for complex processes and procedures
* Inspirational leadership with high level of self-awareness and curiosity with focus on empowering others
* Demonstrated high degree of emotional intelligence, adaptability, and creativity in solution-oriented ideation
* Ability to analyze complex business issues and trends as well as to connect commercial, financial, and clinical perspectives to develop enhanced value propositions

Highly Preferred:
* Experience in Cardiovascular space and medical benefits.
