Position Summary and Role:

We are seeking a Scientist to join our Nucleic Acid Technologies team. If you consider yourself a highly motivated individual who values creativity and cross-functional collaboration to develop and characterize lipid nanoparticle therapeutics, this role is for you! As a member of the team, you will drive the development and refinement of existing and novel LNP formulations to achieve superior LNP therapeutics. Additionally, you will develop key analytical and biochemical tools to characterize the encapsulation efficiency, size, PDI, and zeta potential of LNPs among other characterization techniques. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and characterize upstream process steps, from early-stage development of LNP formulation through characterization LNPs and the respective cargo including establishing relationships between size, PDI, cargo-type, zeta potential, potency, and stability among others. The technical skills you'll leverage to achieve success include upstream process development experience for formulations of LNPs from bench to cGMP scale along with method development for characterization techniques of both the LNPs and the cargo integrity and potency.

As a member of the team, you will:

  • Assess different variables of LNPs and their relation to overall characteristics of the LNPs via DOE including but not limited to N/P ratio, concentration, cryoprotectant, stability...
  • Work closely with RNA/DNA team to determine cargo stability, integrity, and potency
  • Build and implement tools that characterize LNP size, PDI, encapsulation efficiency, potency, among others
  • Collect, analyze and interpret data to drive multiple LNP-focused projects forward both independently and collaboratively
  • Scale up LNP formulation development from bench to pilot scale
  • Collaborate with and mentor other scientists
  • Collaborate closely with Process and Analytical Development teams to inform process improvements and establish robust characterization assays
  • Maintain good electronic lab notebook practices that carefully document work
  • Keep current in the scientific literature to adopt and apply novel methods to formulate and target LNPs
  • Present in cross functional meetings within the broader nucleic acids franchise

About You:

Our ideal candidate will be an energetic and hands-on lab scientist the field of nucleic acids and LNPs. If you are detail oriented, work well in collaborative team settings, and are driven to innovate nucleic acid technologies and characterize their impact in therapeutic contexts, we encourage you to apply!

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Ph.D. or MS Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or related field
  • 0-2 years (PhD) or +4-6 years (MS) of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech setting formulating LNPs and characterizing related cargo
  • Strong competency in lipid structure-function relationships, and formulation or strong interest in LNP and/or emerging nucleic acid delivery technologies.
  • Experience performing and interpreting data from relevant analytical techniques (CGE, UV-Vis, FA, NanoDrop, DLS, zetapotential....)
  • Experience characterizing LNP and cargo stability and translational activity in cell free contexts
  • Motivated to be flexible/adaptable in small team environments
  • Effective English verbal and written communication skills with a track record of high-quality publications and public presentations
