Job Summary

The Student Assistant will support the Political Science and International Studies department as a Research Assistant beginning Summer 2022. The Research Assistant will assist faculty on the project titled "The Effect of Detention and Legal Uncertainty on Immigrant Integration" by supporting data collection, administration, and analysis.

Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period. Georgia Southern University is a tobacco and smoke-free community. All faculty, staff, and students must adhere to the established University System of Georgia policy.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits research participants
  • Sets up interview times
  • Assists with conducting interviews/focus groups
  • Coordinates with community partners
  • Distributes online surveys
  • Transcribes interviews in Spanish
  • Translates interviews from Spanish to English
  • Assists with data analysis
  • Conducts review of the literature
  • Maintains data bases
  • Maintains communication with faculty researchers about the next steps in the project
  • Tracks hours
  • Completes outlined work

Shift Specifics:

  • Up to 20 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability
  • Duties may be completed remotely
Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education

  • Pursing an Undergraduate degree, or completed undergraduate classwork, in the social sciences, foreign language, or related fields

Preferred Experience

  • Past or personal experience working with, or knowledge acquired about, the situation of, immigrants and/or refugees, especially of Latin American origin
  • Experience in maintaining databases as well as qualitative and quantitative research techniques

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of or a native speaker in Spanish
Proposed Salary

$15.00 per hour
