Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Technician to conduct basic and translational research in the field of oncology. Research Technician will work in Drs. Nikhil Munshi's and Kenneth Anderson's labs in the Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Our lab research interest involved multiple myeloma; and our studies have transformed myeloma therapy and patient survival over the last decades through the identification and validation of therapeutic targets in tumor cells and bone marrow microenvironment.

Responsibilities

The senior technician will be an integral member of our research team and will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity. Current projects include studies on novel immunotherapeutic approaches for the treatment of myeloma and analysis of effect of experimental drugs in the context of the bone marrow microenvironment.

The role of the senior lab technician serves a very important and critical role in the flow of the laboratory's research. Previous lab experience is encouraged as the candidate will be expected to independently carry out essential research functions in the laboratory that include but are not limited to:



  • Cell culture
  • Western blot analysis (immuno-precipitations and immunoblotting),
  • RNA/DNA extractions, PCR and RT-PCR
  • Transient transfection and lentiviral transduction
  • Performing cytotoxicity and proliferation assays
  • Flow cytometry assays and experience with analysis (DIVA, FLOW-JO) is preferred.
  • In vivo analysis


  • Follows optimized protocols to process peripheral blood and bone marrow from patients with multiple myeloma on designated clinical trials and tissue banking protocols
  • Assists research fellows with various next-generation sequencing experiments using multiple myeloma cell lines and patient samples
  • Attends lab meetings and actively participates in communicating updates on sample intake for various protocols
  • Maintains accurate electronic and physical sample inventories

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology or immunology preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years professional research laboratory experience.
  • Knowledge of information and techniques related to either biology or immunology is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
  • Must have good organizational and interpersonal skills and a working knowledge of data management, word processing, graphic software (Excel, MS Word, GraphPad/PRISM) is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Must possess basic mathematic skillset
  • Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • is expected to work full time (40 hours/week) for one year with option to extend position beyond this term.

The successful candidate is expected to work flexible hours in order to accommodate experimental needs.
