Transfer and Graduate Student Recruitment Coordinator

Roanoke College seeks a friendly and sales oriented coordinator for transfer and graduate students. Under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Admissions, this position is responsible for all aspects of transfer and graduate student admission, from initial recruitment and application processing to evaluation and matriculation. This is a full time position with benefits.

Position Specific Accountabilities


  • Oversee recruitment, advisement, and evaluation of prospective transfer students in accordance with College guidelines; in consultation with the Associate Dean of Admissions, make critical admission decisions based on strategic enrollment goals.
  • Plan and implementation of on-campus events including Transfer Visit Days and Transfer Orientation. Maintain cross-divisional partnerships with the Registrar, Academic and Student Affairs in planning and implementing Fall and Spring transfer orientation.
  • Build and maintain key partnerships with the directors of transfer centers/counselors at select community colleges, with special focus on Virginia Western Community College and other key Virginia community colleges.
  • Collaboratively design and implement marketing initiatives for transfer, special, and summer school students via brochures, and website enhancements. This position also oversees all communication through multiple channels for effective recruitment of transfer students.
  • Participate in all aspects of admissions recruitment. Visit community colleges, engage transfer students through presentations at select community college recruitment events. The transfer coordinator may be asked occasionally to represent Roanoke College at college nights and college fairs, and participate in on- and off-campus freshman recruitment programs.
  • Counsel prospective students and their families in all aspects of admission and financial aid. This includes unofficial transcript evaluations, guiding community college students on community college course selection that best fits with the Roanoke College curriculum, and guiding students through the financial aid process.
  • Process official transfer credit evaluations for all transfer applicants and freshmen applicants with dual enrollment credits; update Slate, student portal and notify students.
  • Review transfer (full time and part time), Special degree and non-degree seeking students, and all summer school applications. Prepare application review process for the MBA program.
  • Enrollment Division Budget Manager - reconcile VISA statements for admissions and financial aid staff; daily invoices for admissions and financial aid and monthly budget projections. Other weekly budget projects as requested by the vice president for enrollment.
  • Manage the Virginia Transfer Portal in conjunction with Academic Affairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Admissions.

Requisite Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Master's degree preferred. The incumbent will continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
  • Minimum three years of experience in undergraduate admission/advising with prior transfer student recruitment experience strongly recommended.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in admission recruitment and evaluation.
  • Ability to use superior judgment, sensitivity, and discretion concerning admission selection. Provide overall direction to the office on transfer student recruitment and admission matters as well as dual enrollment credit evaluation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and the SLATE CRM is highly beneficial.
  • Experience in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex and occasionally technical information is preferred.
