Job Summary

Prepares patients for surgery and procedures utilizing the Orthopaedic Institute's patient selection criteria to assess and care for the patient. Recovers patients after the procedure or surgery. Participates in procedural sedation cases. Knowledge and experience in the care of patients who have received sedation, regional anesthesia and/or general anesthesia. Experience with care of patients emerging from all forms of anesthesia and the risks associated. Experience with Aldrete scoring and discharge criteria. Experience in orthopaedic care and ambulatory surgery.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications


  • A minimum of two years of nursing experience in area of specialty of PACU with experience in recovering specifically patients in an ambulatory surgery setting. Must have experience with general, regional and local anesthesia recovery of orthopaedic patients.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Current healthcare provider CPR certification.
  • Current healthcare provider ACLS certification.
  • Current healthcare provider PALS certification.
  • Must be able to work variable days/shifts including closing shift.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Current healthcare provider ACLS certification.
  • Current healthcare provider PALS certification.
