Senior Software Engineer (TypeScript/Node)

This role can be done from home:

Building the world's leading sound experience starts with the experience we provide for our people. That's why we've been distributed from the start: initially between offices in Boston & Santa Barbara, and now with additional offices in Seattle, San Francisco & Paris. This role can be done from anywhere in the United States at any of our offices, or remotely from home. It's about impact, not location.

Sonos is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a newly minted backend team whose charter is to create and maintain content resolution services for both internal and third party consumers. These services help our customers quickly find the music they love and want to hear with our app and voice services (Sonos Voice Control, Alexa, and Google).

In this role you'll be expected to not only write and maintain awesome code, but also be responsible for setting the technical direction for the team's projects, as well as teaching and mentoring developers on the team. You will help guide the team with good practices, tips, and strategies for writing great code and creating quality products.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide technical direction and advice to the team.

  • Promote and write clean maintainable high quality code for various projects.

  • Guide and educate team members using code reviews, mentoring, pair programming, and feedback.

  • Contribute to the company's platform and initiatives connecting with other teams to find and create reliable architectural solutions.

  • Thrive in a collaborative agile team where you set technical direction and make incremental improvements on existing projects.

What You'll Need:

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience setting technical project direction, solving technical challenges, and mentoring team members.

  • Extensive experience (more than five years) working with server-side development languages and frameworks specifically JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js.

  • Familiarity with cloud development (ex. AWS and Kubernetes) and agile development practices.

  • Experience educating others on code pragmatism, good practices, and reliability.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of AWS products and services.

  • Experience with running containerized applications on Kubernetes.

  • Experience leveraging data and metrics to define service health and performance

We consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may cause compensation to vary depending on your skills, experience and qualifications. This job is also eligible for discretionary bonuses as well as an opportunity to become a Sonos shareholder because all full time employees are eligible for stock grants. The minimum base pay may be modified in the future based on changing market conditions. The starting minimum base pay for this role is:

$148,000

We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including open time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), and other benefits subject to eligibility requirements.
