Physician - Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology (Division Director)

Job Summary: Physician specializing in oncology to serve as a member of the Division of Medical Oncology, within the Department of Internal Medicine; directs and provides direct and indirect patient care services in both inpatient and outpatient settings; conducts ambulatory clinics; interviews, obtains and reviews medical history of patients; performs physical examinations to assess medical or surgical needs; performs relevant oncology procedures; orders special procedures, diagnostic testing, and other ancillary services; responds to consultation requests; determines, prescribes and implements treatment plans and/or medications required; documents all services and instructions provided in medical record; educates patients and promotes wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials, resources and services to patient and their families; directs and participates in quality assessment and improvement activities; serves as preceptor and provides bedside training of residents, fellows, medical students, undergraduate amp; graduate students, nursing staff, and other allied medical professionals in the specialty of oncology; ensures continuing medical education requirements are met; participates in department, college, medical center and university committees and other service activities.

Required Qualifications: Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Board certification or eligibility from the American Board of Internal Medicine required; active certification from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) required. Completion of an accredited residency in internal medicine and a fellowship training program in hematology and/or oncology required.

The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine and Wexner Medical Center and the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute and the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC-James) seek an exceptional academic physician with proven leadership skills to serve as the next Director of the Division of Medical Oncology.

The falls under the Department of Internal Medicine led by Rama Mallampalli, MD and Chair. The Division is composed of 56 physicians on the tenure or clinical track, 15 PhD Research Faculty, 85 inpatient and outpatient advanced practice practitioners, and 25 administrative support staff. In fiscal year 2021, the Division had over 165 publications and $21.5 million in total external research funding including $8.5 million in NIH funding.

The next Director will grow the Division by increasing its presence on the national/international stage through innovative laboratory and clinical research, strengthening the educational mission and bolstering the delivery of leading-edge clinical care on a local, regional, and national level. The successful candidate will possess the knowledge and experience to effectively lead physicians and other health professionals, researchers, and educators while embracing the values of inclusiveness, diversity and excellence. This leader should also embody the importance of mentoring, promoting talented junior faculty, led by consensus, and be a servant leader.

Qualified candidates must possess an MD, DO (with or without PhD), and board certification in Medical Oncology and be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Ohio. Proven and substantial leadership experience in an academic medical center is required, as is the ability to be a collaborative thought-leader in a large, matrixed, multi-faceted medical center.
