The System Modeling and Estimation Group within the Force Projection Sector of the John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory is seeking a Software Engineer to develop, modernize and maintain software used to evaluate the system-level accuracy of the nation's strategic deterrents, including the Trident Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) and the Air Force 's Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD).

As a Software Engineer for Weapon System Accuracy Analysis You Will:

  • Contribute to teams developing new capabilities and analytical tools.
  • Create tools to support structured and/or ad hoc analysis and visualization of data.
  • Find ways to best manage large data sets for a digital engineering environment
  • Extend the capabilities of an existing object-oriented Systems Modeling and Estimation software library, including full life cycle support (requirements, design, implementation, testing, and debugging) in the C++ programming language (Windows platform).
  • Analyze software complexity and select the best algorithms and tools to meet critical performance criteria.
  • Contribute to specifications, software design documents, and user documentation.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...



  • Have a Bachelor 's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other relevant discipline.
  • Have strong software development experience, including object-oriented design and implementation using C ++ in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Have experience with data analysis and associated computational challenges.
  • Are familiar with software repositories, bug tracking systems, and collaboration tools.
  • Knowledge of digital engineering environments.
  • Have experience with other programming languages, including MATLAB.
  • Have experience with SQL.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance or higher by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship

  • Have an advanced degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience in strategic deterrence domain area or flight systems analysis.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, maximum likelihood estimation using Fisher information, and/or Kalman filtering.
  • Experience with database design and administration.
  • Hold an active final Secret or higher level security clearance.
