Accounting Analyst - Expense Accounting

In this role you will prepare and process general expense entries, accruals, inter-unit allocations and reconciliations. Our Accounting Analyst performs expense reporting functions ensuring consistent application of Statutory and GAAP accounting guidelines. Ensures accurate, reliable, and timely financial and management reporting and supports leaders with financial analysis and results to plan.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares and processes general expense entries, accruals, cost transfers, inter-unit allocations, reconciliations, and distribution of monthly reports. Includes providing month end financial data, segment reporting of allocations and annual budgeting and analysis
  • Completes expense variance analysis for cost centers owners and maintains variance tracking. Identifies, analyzes, and researches variances with an understanding of the G/L to narrow down reasons for the variances
  • Supports the coordination of the expense budget and planning process by ensuring timely submission of information and assisting with communication, process, and organization efforts
  • Conducts annual budget training for cost center managers and administrative associates to review the budgeting procedures and to inform them on any budget changes
  • Identifies and drives process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, tools, dashboards, etc. and works to increase productivity by streamlining existing processes, eliminating redundant efforts, and automating where possible
  • Works with other functional areas in RGA to achieve efficient and effective accounting and reporting practices and procedures and responds to requests/inquiries from other functional areas of the business
  • Performs other duties, handles ad-hoc and special accounted related, as assigned, and serves as a back-up on several key processes and projects
Requirements

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent related work experience
  • 5-8 years accounting or auditing experience

Preferred:

  • Progress towards CPA
  • Progress towards FLMI
  • PeopleSoft or other accounting software applications experience
  • Insurance/Reinsurance financial reporting experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Word, intermediate Excel and SQL/Query skills
  • Ability to perform accounting analysis and provide recommendations of policies, and procedures and interpretations and applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting/finance theory and applications and Statutory and GAAP accounting.
  • Ability to be flexible when needed, take initiative, and demonstrate accountability.
  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills demonstrating ability to share and impart knowledge.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions.
  • Intermediate level of investigative, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Intermediate interpersonal skills
  • Ability to set goals and handle multiple tasks, clients, and projects simultaneously; Ability to appropriately balance priorities, deadlines, and deliverables

State of Colorado: This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act. The pay range for this position in Colorado is $70235 - 99735 per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan.
