Position Summary:
The Associate Director of Publications and Strategic Projects will serve as a project manager for all department jobs, create content as needed and edit all materials. This individual will also serve as managing editor for high-profile publications including, but not limited to, NJIT Magazine (three issues per year), The President's Annual Report and NJIT's major annual research publication. Other regular publications requiring writing, editing, and project management tracking may include, but are not limited to, the strategic plans, accreditation reports, Convocation materials, Commencement materials, general communications objectives, marketing projects, collateral development, premium items and advertising. This person will schedule, track, update spreadsheets and manage all jobs. This also includes planning and client contact/updates, writing, design coordination, editing and trafficking internal production of all materials. The person will provide leadership with regard to projects and initiatives, to ensure effective outcomes of goals, provide suggestions, guidance and expertise to clients regarding their requests. The Associate Director will support the Executive Director of Publications and Creative Services, ensuring that communications and publications reinforce NJIT's branding initiatives in relation to recruitment, donor relations, fundraising and other campus activities and programs.

Essential Functions:
- Manages, executes, implements, writes, edits and produces high-quality publications, marketing collateral and communications materials after evaluation of clients' needs and criteria.
- Ensures that all jobs stay on-schedule and maintains regular updates with all key parties.
- Ensures direction of materials is aligned with other aligned initiatives in-market.
- Manages, tracks and reports-out on all marketing projects, collateral development and advertising.
- Provides expert recommendations and direction to peers and clients.
- Serves as editor and manager of NJIT Magazine, Annual Report and/or other high value publications.
- Supports NJIT branding strategies and overall integrated marketing communications initiatives.
- Works closely with all team members to support and fulfill common goals.
- Assists the Executive Director to produce materials that will best position NJIT and serve the needs of the community, at large.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of publications, collateral, promotional materials, reports and marketing materials.

Additional Functions:
- May occasionally have participation in events or represent department in planning committees that may at times be outside of regular work hours.
- Occasional oversite or attendance at photo shoots as they pertain to publications being produced.
- Other responsibilities as needed and requested by supervisor.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years related experience.
- Strong writing and editing ability across multiple platforms and contexts, particularly advertising and marketing vehicles, as well as publications.
- Demonstrated project management experience with a proven ability to establish priorities and follow multiple tasks through to completion, simultaneously.
- Demonstrated proficiency with appropriate hardware and software packages such as MS Office Suite. InDesign and Adobe preferred, but not required.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while consistently hitting tight deadlines.
- Working knowledge of graphic and web design software.
- Demonstrated proficiency with project management software.
- Experience managing the production process of a publication.
