Position Overview:

The Chief Marketing Officer will be a proven leader of a high-performance, central marketing organization at a leading software company. This executive will design, develop, and drive an overall customer first marketing strategy. He or she has the expertise in the people, processes, and tools needed to build predictable revenue generating outcomes for the organization. This individual will be responsible for maintaining and expanding category leadership, building a world-class brand, driving new business leads, generating authentic content creation, leading effective internal and external corporate communications, building a successful partner ecosystem, and instituting tracking and reporting systems.

The Chief Marketing Officer will possess the analytical and quantitative acumen to plan strategically, formidable knowledge of lead and demand generation, cross-channel marketing, integrated marketing, conversion funnels, ROI analysis, and email marketing. To be successful in this role, this executive will need to partner with the business unit marketing and commercial leaders to execute quickly and decisively analyze and identify patterns among data sets and be effective at finding innovative solutions to complex problems. The ideal candidate will be able to clearly focus on and define the customer's voice, and align all marketing and branding initiatives in a consistent manner to support Diligent's Global Commercial organization

Most importantly, the CMO will be a key and critical member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, the Board of Directors, and other critical leaders within the business. The responsibilities are substantial with the key focus being the development and execution of technical strategies and solutions to efficiently increase user satisfaction, user experience, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities



  • Own the development and delivery of the global brand story. Deliver the brand into market in a way that positions Diligent as the leader in modern governance.
  • Lead Diligent's product marketing efforts, and establish our unique selling proposition within our space. Partner with product management to define the product roadmap and maintain a competitive advantage.
  • Strategically market to multiple personas across the Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) ecosystem to demonstrate the value of Diligent's technology.
  • Drive the success of new business and expansion lead generation to support the global commercial organization.
  • Establish strategic partnerships with key vendors in order to execute a top performing global, multi-channel marketing strategy.
  • Create, manage, and execute enterprise marketing strategies while establishing internal procedures and processes for project management, tracking, and reporting.
  • Oversee channel optimization and testing, campaign management, content marketing, branding, and messaging.
  • Develop, integrate, and implement a robust content creation strategy is that comprised of governance thought leadership and proprietary research through the Diligent Institute that serves the needs of the market.
  • Develop and implement integrated strategic communication plans to advance Diligent's brand identity and increase the visibility of programs across key stakeholders in the market.
  • Responsible for Diligent's internal integrated communication strategy, to proactively build internal messaging, platforms and forums that foster employee engagement and awareness.
  • Attract and retain world-class marketing talent.


Required Experience/Skills



  • A Bachelor's degree in Marketing or equivalent experience; an MBA is a plus.
  • Previous experience managing a large multifaceted team in a fast-paced, high performance global marketing organization.
  • Successful multi-channel marketing experience at an enterprise-based organization with a background in B2B software. SaaS experience is a plus.
  • Previous experience acting as a true business partner to a global sales organization, and driving lead and demand generation.
  • The proven ability to tell the company story, build a unique brand, create a new category, manage a demand generation team, and enable sales and client services to be successful.
  • At ease developing relationships across disciplines; able to collaborate effortlessly with finance, sales, partners, and product teams to create and execute an overall marketing plan.
  • The proven ability to easily switch between "chief storyteller" and "quantitative marketer" roles.
  • Substantial experience with hiring and onboarding world-class talent and leading a large global team of top performers.
  • Proven ability to design and drive an enterprise focused marketing strategy, as well as implement measurable and metrics-driven initiatives.
  • The discipline to design and develop internal processes and implement structure, as well as the focus to drive projects and campaigns from creation to fruition.
  • Exceptional written and verbal presentation; superior interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
