The College of Health Sciences is seeking highly motivated students interested in pursuing a PhD degree in Rehabilitation and Health Sciences. Teaching Assistant responsibilities include teaching courses, grading homework and projects, holding office hours, and other duties as assigned.

10- 12 Month Positions Available: July- August, 2022 with options for contract renewal

Location: University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY

Position Description: Teaching Assistant (TA) in the College of Health Sciences (Type 1- Independent TA)

Qualifications:

1. Earned master's degree in a health related or clinical management related field.

2. Interested in teaching undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Human Health Sciences or Clinical Leadership and Management.

3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

4. Some teaching experience is preferred.

A teaching assistantship will include stipend (10-12 months), tuition waiver, and health insurance. Individuals applying for admission into the Rehabilitation and Health Sciences PhD ( RHB ) program must hold a professional or post-professional master's degree. Eligibility for licensure or clinical certification in Communication Sciences & Disorders, Athletic Training, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, or Physician Assistant Studies is highly encouraged, but not absolutely required for admission into the program or to be eligible for this TA position. Acceptance into the program is dependent upon identifying and matching your area of research interest with an RHB faculty member willing to serve as your PhD doctoral studies program mentor .

Responsibilities for the Teaching Assistantship (1 -2 courses per semester):

Students will be assigned as independent instructors to courses that align with their qualifications and experience such as:

1. HHS / CLM 241- Health and Medical Care Delivery Systems

2. HHS / CLM 350- Health Policy and Politics

3. HHS 262- Health Advocacy & Patient Experience

3. CHS 150- Introduction to Interprofessional Collaboration in Healthcare

This position requires a full semester commitment of not more than 20 hours per week and may include the following duties, expectations, and requirements:

Students may not exceed 20 hours per week during the academic year for all assignments across campus. TA's receive a stipend, a tuition scholarship provided by the UK Graduate School/College of Health Sciences, and Student Health Plan Coverage provided by the Graduate School.

Information about the RHB PhD Program

The mission of the Rehabilitation and Health Sciences PhD Program is to fulfill a leadership role in addressing the rehabilitation needs of individuals in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond through research, education, and service. The program is designed to produce research and academic leaders in rehabilitation sciences for the professions of communication disorders, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and athletic training. The UK College of Health Sciences offers the program in collaboration with Eastern Kentucky University and other Kentucky Universities. The Rehabilitation and Health Sciences PhD Program at the University of Kentucky is among the few of its kind in the nation to grant a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Sciences and has one of the highest percentages of students graduating within five years at the university. The program includes approximately 38 faculty and 40 full- and part-time students from diverse backgrounds and a range of clinical and higher education experiences.

The program has a strong emphasis on research and provides very diverse research experiences in the different areas of physical rehabilitation and health sciences.
