SAIC has an opportunity available for a Senior Database Services Manager to join our team supporting the Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection (DHS CBP) Office of Information and Technology’s Enterprise Data Management and Engineering Division’s Data Center Support Services contract (OIT EDMED DCSS). This an opportunity for you to join the team on a long-term (10 year) contract implementing leading edge technology to provide CBP with information, services, and technology solutions to secure the border, prevent the entry of terrorists or terrorist weapons, and to ensure the efficient flow of lawful people across U.S. borders. This position is contingent upon contract award and located in the DC Metro area.

The Database Services Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day operations and proactively design, implement, and support all areas and components of the customer’s database infrastructure. The database services team supports and manages Datacom/DB, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, and Informatica environments. Your task includes provision of highly responsive services providing reliability, availability, scalability, capacity on demand, performance optimization, inter- operability, problem analysis / resolution, configuration management, disaster recovery, capacity planning, operational redundancy, contingency planning, integration, and operations for all database components across the CBP database enterprise architecture.

Specific responsibilities of this position require providing leadership and management to ensure efficient and cost-effective provision of database services responsive to CBP requirements, including:

Engineer, integrate, implement, and operate CBP OIT Database systems (Datacom/DB, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle) across the entire enterprise and with cloud service providers to support 24x7x365 availability.

Provide problem determination/analysis and isolate system problems utilizing diagnostic and system management tools (i.e. system dumps and system/component traces, monitoring tools, and vendor problem data bases).

Maintain security hardened baseline configurations and deploy security and software maintenance patches and new software releases and supporting products infrastructure as directed by the system owner, DHS and CBP OIT policy, or the Cybersecurity Directorate.

Engineer, integrate, implement, and operate a virtualization strategy to include Database server consolidation, storage consolidation, and automation. Automation includes seamless database provisioning, and non- disruptive workflow / application / data migrations.

Maintain up-to-date documentation of all procedures, infrastructure diagrams, system configuration and baseline standards, implementation plans, system back out plans, system recovery plans, maintenance plans, system upgrades, and all system changes.

Process, manage, and resolve all event, warning, alert, and alarm messages.

Design and implement automated responses to system issues (e.g., automatic failover, resource allocation adjustments).


- Bachelor degree (experience considered in lieu of degree)

- Minimum 9 years relevant experience

- Must have at least three years’ experience leading a team which manages a complex mix of database infrastructure, including Datacom/DB, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, and Informatica

- Must have five or more recent years of demonstrated advanced, hands-on, database services engineering experience supporting the design, installation, configuration, development, integration, implementation, and testing of database services in a complex environment with multiple physical locations and Cloud environments


- Experience supporting DHS Customs and Border Protection or a similar Federal agency in a large, complex, database services environment

- Current DHS security clearance of Secret

- Hands-on familiarity with Datacom/DB, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle


- Must possess a current Secret clearance
